Liucina Kotlovska, director of the municipal administration, told BNS that the municipality must buy or build social housing, and the old school in Mickūnai is perfect for that.
“We try to acquire or equip that house so that it is not too far from the Vilnius city limits, so that these people can get to both the city and the schools safely and quickly, and so that the entire social infrastructure is close to (…) Here’s an old building, we didn’t have to buy anything. Especially since we haven’t bought any houses in Mickūnai lately, “said L. Kotlovska.
“I agree that Mickūnai is close to the city and comfortable to live in,” he added.
According to the director, the project is financed by the municipality, but other options are being sought, such as using money from the state budget.
Last September, BNS wrote that the Bukiškis district community was opposed to the district municipality’s intention to install social housing in the dormitory, at which time the municipality said that residents’ anxiety was unfounded.
According to L. Kotlovska, the Government’s decision on the transfer of the old school dormitory in Bukiškis to the needs of the municipality is still awaited. It will be assumed by the Property Bank.
“There are two or three five-story dormitories near the school in Bukiškis. This bedroom has been renovated, someone bought it, repaired it and is now selling the property, the apartments can even be bought. And they give us a dormitory that once belonged to the school, well, and the school doesn’t need it now, ”explained L. Kotlovska.
According to the director, the municipality has a social housing fund and is trying to meet the needs of people in line.
“There are a number of disadvantaged people, as well as low-income people and orphans who have come of age. Well, there is a very wide range of people who can be in that line,” he said.
The municipality is also building social housing in Nemenčinė.
