Voting in the second round of the Seimas elections in the port city was disturbed by a Klaipėda neighbor who, when he came to vote, demanded that he be removed from the voters’ lists so that his signature would not be forged. The police had to be called to maintain order. The enraged man pushed the officer as well, so when they handcuffed him, they had to take him to the police station.
Incident in the Smiltel zona area
Sunday around 11:30 pm A Russian-speaking Klaipėda resident arrived at the Smiltelė constituency on Reykjaviko Street.
The man in his 35s, as it turned out later, was sober. Quite aggressively, he demanded that the members of the commission be removed from the electoral roll.
According to witnesses, the Klaipėda resident was determined not to vote, so, convinced that the vote would not be falsified, the man demanded that he be removed from the voter rolls.
The commission members explained that only the Central Election Commission could do that, then Klaipėda residents began to flow in half Lithuanian and half Russian.
Commissioners working at the polling station had to call the police.
However, the enraged voter did not calm down even when the officials were summoned and shoved with them. So when he handcuffed him, they took him to the police station.
“This is the first incident of its kind in our entire history. After all this, the members of the commission felt very intimidated, scared. It is a very unpleasant story, ”said Mindaugas Zumas, president of Seaside Constituency.
Wild boars mingled along the way
Well, similar incidents have not yet occurred in other districts of Klaipėda. In the electoral districts of Mariai and Baltic, elections are quiet and fluid.
This is the first such incident in our entire work history.
So far there have been no complaints, just a few cases where voters in other districts wanted to vote here, but those opportunities no longer exist on Election Day, but people didn’t make any claims.
It is true that on Sunday morning, the Danish constituency, whose commission is located at the municipality’s premises, on Liepų Street, arrived 15 minutes late.
“When we arrived in the morning, we found the municipal gate closed. The security guard was late, as it turned out later, on the way in which he shot the wild boar in a car, so he was late. That’s what happens, “smiled Adolf Gritėnas, president of the Danish constituency.
In Gargždai – the candidate’s car
On Election Day, there were no incidents in the Mėguva constituency, where voters from Palanga and Kretinga voted.
However, in Gargždai, a car covered by a political advertisement for nominated candidate Petras Gražulis was still migrating through the city on Sunday morning.
Zigmas Bitinas, president of the Gargždai constituency, assured that the police had received information that the candidate’s advertising car had been left near the large shopping center.
“In the first round of the elections, our two candidates (including the conservative Rasa Petrauskienė – AD) were caught arriving at the church and leaving their cars with advertising inscriptions next to them. It is not possible to drive the vehicles described on the day of the election. They were both taught then, and now I hope they follow the order, ”said Z. Bitinas.
