Comment by Silvija Skvernelė on Facebook

Such speeches did not pass the eyes of Internet users, with some people expressing outrage at the public statement by the prime minister’s wife.

However, S. Skvernelis’s adviser, Tomas Beržinskas, says in the comment sent to the news portal tv3.lt that it is a personal opinion expressed by the prime minister’s wife, but that he cannot comment further on it, since that he is not a representative of S. Skvernelis.

“The wife of the Prime Minister, like any other Lithuanian citizen, has the right to express her opinion on all issues. This is a personal statement from the wife of the Prime Minister, which I cannot comment without being her representative,” said T. Beržinskas .

The news portal tv3.lt recalls that in November last year it became clear that the paving of Upės Street in the village of Smigliai, where the Prime Minister’s house is located, had begun. The media were suspicious of how the funds for these road works were allocated. At the end of October, by decision of the Vilnius District Municipal Council, Upės str. It entered the list of paved roads, less than a week later the government allocated funds for these works.

However, many people had doubts about the fact that S. Skvernelis himself did not withdraw when the Cabinet of Ministers considered this issue. The environment of the Prime Minister defended that in the decision of the Government Upės str. it is not mentioned, and S. Skvernel himself personally did not care that the street his house is on was covered with new asphalt.

The Central Commission of Official Ethics (COEC) also launched an investigation into this story. Six months later, the COEC announced that it would end the investigation into Upės str. paved, this decision was unanimously approved by the members of the commission.

“I am glad that a final legal evaluation was done on this story. I did not doubt it from day one. Since I was constantly accused of defamation, I never took any action, I am glad that the investigation, which lasted a long time, has come at its end and the decision has been made unanimously. I want to regret it, this is a legal assessment. But what damage to the reputation has been done to a politician by constantly repeating slander and lies for six months both in the Seimas and elsewhere formats ”, commented S. Skvernelis on the COEC decision.
