Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis claims pensions will be indexed and possibly increased to 7%. The Prime Minister also adds that the GDP in Lithuania may not only not decrease, but also grow.

“We will present the budget proposal in mid-October, (…) no later than October 17. (…) In mid-September, we will have the final projection of the financial perspectives. However, based on what we have at the moment, what are the signs and changes in the Lithuanian economy during the COVID-19 crisis, we are no longer talking about the fact that GDP may not even decrease, or decrease in a way very insignificant, it can be zero or slightly. grow up, ”said the Prime Minister.

S. Skvernelis stated that according to the conditions provided by law, there are opportunities for indexation of pensions and they are likely to increase by 7%.

“The law establishes two conditions: pensions are not indexed if GDP decreases or wages do not increase. Apparently, we have to stick to both conditions, because even after recalculating the changes in GDP, which we will receive in April-March, there may be growth (GDP – ELTA). As a result, I can responsibly say that pensions will be indexed, they can grow up to 7%. Final figures will be seen later. But pensions will definitely grow and index, and we have the ability and the state’s ability to do so, ”said the Prime Minister.
