If the president of the Union of Peasants and Greens of Lithuania (LVŽS) Ramūnas Karbauskis claims to imagine, although under certain conditions, a joint work with the Union of the Fatherland, then the leader of the electoral list of “peasants”, the prime minister Saulius Skvernelis, states that he lacks imagination on this issue. The head of government emphasizes that the tandem of “peasants” and conservatives is practically impossible, it is even more difficult for him to imagine himself working in such a coalition.
Following the government meeting, the prime minister took a different view of relations with opposition forces over the past year. According to him, when it comes to the Liberal Movement, we can speak of constructive work.
“In four years, I have seen many rational politicians in this group, we have really spoken a lot, I am speaking for the Government. We were looking for solutions, there was a lot of support and support from the members of the Seimas, who are responsible for districts and specific people” said S. Skvernelis.
Meanwhile, speaking of conservatives, the prime minister’s words were more cautious. Although at the same time he emphasized that he would not consider him an enemy of the most influential opposition party.
“As for the Union of the Fatherland, I also say that it is not the enemy, since you are trying to say here that the enemies are incompatible. We are opponents, our positions differ a lot, sometimes they overlap, but cooperative. . What the party president (R. Karbauskis – ELTA) said … This is the party and the party president can and will have to decide which coalitions and on behalf of what she wants to see. But today, I repeat what I have said many times, I can hardly imagine the possibility of such a coalition, but there is everything in politics, “said the Prime Minister, emphasizing that he could not imagine at all in such a coalition.
“It’s even harder for me to imagine myself being part of such a coalition,” he said.
R. Karbauskis, president of “Valstiečių,” said in Kaunas on Wednesday that he plans to work together in a coalition with the Conservatives. According to him, depending on the position of the conservatives, the joint work of the “peasants” in the coalition is possible with the most abundant opposition force at the moment.
“If you speak after the elections and do not want the ‘peasants’ at any price to be left out of power, as they were in 2016, it will be something to talk about.” I hope that among them there are those who are Christian Democrats, not liberals, that they really want coalitions with the Union of Peasants and Greens, “said the politician.
