The prime minister stressed that after statements by Belarusian President Aliaksandr Lukashenko on Thursday that the borders will be closed, the neighboring state has not taken any real action so far.
“There is no solution yet, we see more than one statement of sounds emanating from that country, aimed mainly at internal politics. If there are such measures, there will be an adequate response, “S. Skvernelis told reporters in Kaunas on Friday.
“Trucks could not enter from that country simply through Lithuania or Poland. That, apparently, would be another blow to an otherwise seriously ill economy. I don’t think it will be done. If it is done, as I said, there will be an adequate response ”, emphasized the Head of Government.
According to him, if Belarus made that decision, the Belarusian economy would suffer first. At that time, the Lithuanian company that works with the eastern market, according to him, is aware of the risks and has diversified them.
“Yes, there would be some comments, apparently for individual sectors, for some more, for others less. But this would not be a significant and very important blow for us,” he said.
The prime minister claimed that Lukashenko was trying to send another message to Belarusian society that the West was “the greatest enemy”.

Lukashenko said on Thursday that Belarus was closing the border with the West, mainly with Lithuania and Poland, and strengthening the protection of the state border with Ukraine, and said it would send “half the army” to strengthen the protection of the western borders.
