Skvernel on the migratory unrest: “People accused of being almost enemies of the State who are naturally afraid”

In Lithuania, riots are becoming more frequent due to the planned temporary settlement of migrants in one place or another. First, the residents of Dieveniškės protested, blocking the entrance to the migrants’ accommodation with tractors, then the protests moved to the Rūdninkai landfill, where police officers forcibly removed people from the road on Monday.

The political critic Marius Laurinavičius also discussed this situation on the news portal tv3.lt program “Dienas pjūvis” together with S. Skvernelis.

People protest ignorance

According to S. Skvernel, the government’s biggest problem is that it did not communicate with the locals when making decisions. Residents protest ignorance and misunderstandings.

“They are people accused of being almost enemies of the state who naturally have fears, those fears are enormous. They see what is happening, they protest, they oppose them due to ignorance, misunderstanding, and lack of communication from the central government.

<...> If you start to change your decisions, you decide without agreeing with the community or the municipality, which is really responsible and can really impose many decisions, do not explain, it is certain that people are afraid, “said the former prime minister. .

People’s fears are also fueled by politicians taking advantage of the situation, increasing tensions within the country. This tension is said to serve the purposes of the enemies.

“This hybrid attack has to do with internal tensions and unrest, but we need to talk to the people and not say that they are all enemies of the state because they are afraid, afraid and try to defend their interests.”

Marius Laurinavičius, a political commentator who participated in the “Section of the Day” program, admits that the management of this crisis could really be better.

“Yes, you have to talk about the people, you have to talk about self-government in those regions where, let’s say, there are plans to deploy those migrants. There are a lot of things that need to be done and, in fact, crisis management could really be better in this moment, we have to admit it ”, said M. Laurinavičius.

In Rūdninkai, the police acted in accordance with the law.

On Monday, the police forcibly expelled the protesters at the Rūdninkai landfill. The officials behaved as required by law.

“What happened on Monday was an illegal act, but it was caused by the government’s lack of dialogue with the people, it was already a consequence and the police, as always, are at the time of correcting the stupid decisions of the politicians. But these actions are illegal, it is not possible to block roads, entrances to the departmental objects of the Ministry of Education, so the police acted as they were obliged to according to the law ”, assured S. Skvernelis.

“I think they have shown that Lithuania is prepared to comply with the law. It is not to persecute our citizens in any way, but to enforce the law and take action against violators of the law,” said M. Laurinavičius.

According to the political commentator, it is no secret that Belarus is carrying out a hybrid attack against Lithuania, so it is very important to show such actions, especially when there are provocateurs among the protesters.

“Among those people are not only the provocateurs mentioned by Mr. Skvernel, but there are actually people who have already shown their loyalty to Russia or their support for Russia or Belarus quite clearly through their other actions. Speaking of which people, I think there are sufficient reasons to talk about anti-state activities ”, M. Laurinavičius is convinced.
