According to Marius Skuodis, people will only be able to return home if there are very important reasons for it, for example, if parents are separated from their young children or go to a funeral.

“What we are doing at the moment is talking very intensively with neighboring countries, especially Latvians and Estonians, and I hope that in the near future we will be able to report on a single, very limited flight with citizens of all the Baltic countries. In Lithuania” M. Skuodis told LRT radio on Wednesday.

According to him, the Baltic countries will order a plane, with which few Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian citizens will be able to return home.

“7 thousand people were planning to come to Lithuania during the festive period. People, but we are talking about much smaller numbers at the moment,” he said.

The minister said that the specific date of the flight will be announced in the near future, it should take place at the end of the Christmas holidays.

“Unfortunately, this is not the next day, it is probably the second half of the holiday period. Today, my colleague Gabrielius Landsbergis (Minister of Foreign Affairs – BNS) will have a teleconference with the ministers of the neighboring countries, which we hope to be able to say a date in the near future ”, said M. Skuodis.

The Lithuanian Embassy in London is collecting information on people who need help returning home from the UK.

From Monday morning until the end of the year, a ban on the arrival of UK passenger planes went into effect due to the spread of the coronavirus strain in Lithuania. Cargo flights are not suspended.
