“We have assigned almost 7,400 children during the first and second stages, currently there are still 240 places available in kindergartens in various age groups, one by one, several at a time. There are still about 3 thousand in the queue. Children” Edita Tamošiūnaitė, deputy mayor of the capital, told BNS.
According to her, about 900 abandoned children in the bar attend private kindergartens and receive compensation of 100 euros per month from the municipality.
Most of those waiting are children under 3 years old, there are around 2,000 of them, the rest are older.
According to E. Tamošiūnaitė, during the first stage of admission to kindergartens, 800 parents refused to sign contracts, for the moment they decided to raise their children at home or to choose private institutions.
The municipality promises that at least several dozen more children will be able to enter the newly established kindergarten groups in Pilaitė and Pašilaičiai starting in the fall.
There are a total of 138 municipal kindergartens in the capital, as well as a similar number of private preschool institutions.
