Šimonytė promises to review the quarantine regime in two weeks: relief is only possible when seeing the dynamics of improvement of the situation

“The dynamics is more important than the number of cases,” the head of government told reporters at Seimas on Tuesday.

According to her, the Cabinet of Ministers plans to return to the consideration of the quarantine conditions on January 17, because then the statistics of complete working weeks on the spread of the coronavirus will be known.

“Now there have been practically no normal work weeks since the quarantine was tightened, so it is still too early to talk about trends,” said I. Šimonytė.

“There is also the effect of the holidays, which have been quite a lot, it means fewer tests and fewer cases, and a natural dynamic of decline,” he explained.

According to the prime minister, decisions on the review of quarantine conditions will be determined by a complex variety of things.

“We probably need to see some things: that we no longer have distortions in the data series, and that by comparing periods not one day or another, but by taking that seven-day moving average, we will definitely see a downward trend.” So far, we cannot really speak of a decreasing trend in cases, “said I. Šimonytė.

“We need to have two full weeks, the dynamics of which would already suggest that we have passed the peak. Then it is possible to consider what changes and at what rate can occur, how much and from what moment it will be possible to apply the test tools more widely, how far we will be with vaccination, ”he said.

According to the head of government, they would not want the quarantine conditions to be tightened soon.

“What you don’t want, you don’t want the experience that we will probably see in many countries, when, despite the strict quarantine, then there was a relaxation of the conditions, and now the countries have returned to strict quarantine because the epidemic situation is not satisfactory. . Any relaxation after a short time hits very unpleasant statistics, “said I. Šimonytė.

He said he would not consider getting vaccinated against COVID-19 until all doctors had been vaccinated.

“Until the medical community is vaccinated, I really wouldn’t consider it. Now it is really a priority to guarantee the protection of those on the front lines, ”emphasized the Prime Minister.

According to her, if the public should be encouraged to get vaccinated, it is tentatively agreed with former prime ministers so that they too can contribute and set an example.

The quarantine regime introduced in early November tightened in mid-December and lasted until January 31, closing many shops, hairdressers, restricting the movement of people between municipalities and meetings both at home and in public places.
