“I think that a better representative of Lithuania in the sense that the results could be more effective would be the Prime Minister, regardless of the surname,” I. Šimonytė told the portal on Tuesday 15 minutes.
In an interview with the ELTA news agency on Friday last week, I. Šimonytė stated that he would not try to seize the monopoly of the country’s EVS in the hands of President Gitanas Nausėda, but also pointed out that he would not prevent the conservatives of the Seimas from raising this question in parliament. or by appealing to the Constitutional Court.
“I will definitely not silence my colleagues in the Seimas if they want to raise these problems. If the institutions (Presidency and Government – ELTA) can no longer find a solution among themselves, there are probably institutions that can answer these questions, as was the case with Poland, where the Constitutional Court answered this question If there is such an initiative, no one can prohibit the members of the Seimas from taking this initiative.
Once again, I want to make it very clear that I’m certainly not going to choose anyone’s laurel and oak wreath for myself. I just think there is a certain logic to the agenda and the practice of implementing that agenda. And it seems to dictate that it would make more sense to agree than to disagree. However, if one of the parties does not want to negotiate, the other party will certainly not be able to impose their agreement, ”I. Šimonytė told Eltai.
Recently, the question of whether the president should continue to represent EVS has sparked considerable debate between the Presidency and some conservatives. The latter argue that the Prime Minister should go to the EVS because, according to them, it is more about issues that are the prerogative of the Government.
Last week, the head of government I. Šimonytė stated that she had discussed the issue of greater representation in the EVS with the president. According to the politician, it would be possible to return to the system in Lithuania, when the top managers shared the functions of representation in the EVS. At the time, the president disagreed with the position expressed by the prime minister. He states that he remains determined to fully represent Lithuania in EVS. At that time, if the Seimas adopted the amendments that regulate representation in the EVS, the president did not hide the interview from LRT television to veto them without any doubt.
According to the Delfi portal, the conservatives are taking the initiative to present a separate law that regulates the representation of the state in the EVS in the spring session.
