Kristina Lelevičienė, an expert at the BENU Pharmacy Institute for Healthy Skin, says that pigment spots are a skin lesion caused by UV rays from the sun. They are difficult to eradicate, in some cases impossible.
According to S. Nainė, the pigment spots on his face begin to appear after each prolonged and careless sun bath. Getting rid of them is not so easy. The woman treated the pigment spots with the help of an esthetician: she had to go through the entire procedure until some of the pigment spots disappeared and others became less visible.
“After such a lesson, I try to protect my face, especially from the sun. I use a protective cream every day. During the day I like to spray my face more and spray with SPF. Also, I protect not only my face but also my body. , because I have many moles, slags that emerge from the sun. I have a nice brown body and moderately tan, but healthy skin is more beautiful. If I can, I prefer not to cover myself, and when I want to enjoy the sun’s rays, which are not with us both during the year, I always use the maximum sun protection “, – Simona Nainė shares her experience.
Pigment spots: a protective reaction of the skin to the sun
Pigment spots on the skin can appear for a variety of reasons: hormonal imbalances, such as during pregnancy, thyroid or liver disease, as well as vitamin A, C and PP deficiency, endocrine disorders. However, if the pigment spots appear in the summer or at the end, it is very likely a consequence of excessive sunburn.
“When exposed to the sun, our skin is exposed to two types of ultraviolet rays: UVA and UVB. Both rays are dangerous to the skin, but pigmentation is promoted by UVA rays that penetrate the deepest layers of the skin. Pigment spots are the melanin pigment that has accumulated in certain places. The sun stimulates the production of this pigment, making our skin turn brown. However, it is not uncommon to know that melanin is not produced to make the most beautiful skin. Melanin has a protective function: it protects the skin cells from UV damage. In other words, the release of melanin is a defensive reaction of the skin, “explains an expert from the Healthy Skin Institute .
Some pigment spots, such as those caused during pregnancy due to hormonal imbalances, may go away on their own as hormonal imbalances return. You may not be able to get rid of other pigment spots. It is important to know that pigments not caused by the sun are “planted” in the skin by UV rays, so they cannot disappear on their own.
“Pigment spots should not be neglected. After noticing the first darkening of the skin and the resulting uneven tones, I recommend using facial care products with Vitamin C, Licorice Extract, which lighten the skin and reduce pigmentation. After applying the lightening gel on the pigment areas and absorbing it, you should use sunscreen with SPF50. This will protect the skin from the appearance of pigment spots and the appearance of new ones. However, darker and more dated pigment spots may need to be removed with the help of beauticians. It generally requires 5 to 10 skin whitening procedures, ”says skin care expert K. Lelevičienė.
For the treatment of pigment spots, it is also recommended to use products with alpha hydroxy acids or AHA. AHA acids effectively help remove dead skin cells, revealing deeper, more radiant skin. They also restore skin damaged by photoaging. It is true that AHA acids, such as vitamin C, can cause photosensitivity, so in summer and on sunny days, it is recommended to use products with AHA and vitamin C acids at night and apply sunscreen to the face during the day.
Polyhydroxy acids or PHAs also have a whitening and exfoliating effect. Its effects are similar to AHA acids, except that they are less irritating to the skin, so they are recommended for owners of more sensitive skin.
Avoiding is easier than curing
To have shiny and healthy skin, it is very important to protect it from the harmful UV rays of the sun. Proper daily sun protection will help prevent skin pigmentation, premature aging, and serious conditions like melanoma. K. Lelevičienė reminds that it is necessary to wear protective equipment every day when we go out or stay in a house where direct sunlight enters through the windows. Neither glass nor clouds are 100 percent. It doesn’t block UV rays, so your skin can be exposed to them even on a cloudy day.
“The Lithuanian gym is quite bright, so I recommend the daily use of protective gear with SPF50 for the face, and with an SPF of at least 30 for the body. When spending a lot of time in the sun, the face and body should reapply every few hours. ” Facial mist or other convenient SPF product can also be used in the city during the day. Properly protected from the sun, the skin will stay healthy, shiny and youthful for a longer time ”, says an expert from the Healthy Skin Institute.
