Klaipeda team “Neptune” (2/5) returned to the championship of the Lithuanian Basketball League (“Betsafe-LKL”) after a coronavirus and launched a serious fight for “Šiauliai” (1/7), but still so he lost it dramatically 88:93 (16:27, 26:29, 25:19, 21:18).
This is how the Šiauliai team achieved the first victory of this season in the LKL championship.
At first, the people of Klaipėda showed no lack of strength and walked like rivals (10: 9), but soon “Neptūnas” stopped and allowed “Šiauliai” to organize an outbreak. Thanks to his individual initiative, Martynas Mažeika brought Neptūnas closer to the rivals, scoring 14 points and thus reducing the difference to 7 – 58:65. E. Fridriksson tried to regain the lead (70:58), but after Giedrius Stankevičius’s 3-pointer and Tadas Pažėra’s points, “Neptūnas” was already breathing down his back – 67:71. 75:67 – so after the third quarter the Šiauliai team led.
“Neptūnas” continued to relive the intrigue and after M.Mažeika’s long pitch was left only minimally – 76:77. Thanks to him and Mato Jogėla, he managed to stay close to the opponents, and the latter, having recovered the ball, already overtook the guests – 84:83. E.Fridriksson increased the difference (87:84), but Martynas Mažeika was also right, and it was the last minute. The ball was in the hands of the guests, but the captain of “Neptune” committed a foul. Justas Furmanavičius carried out both fines (89:86), while T. Pazėgiai lost both. M.Mažeika passed the nervous test (88:89) and G.Orelikas received a fine. M.Lukauskis bounced the ball, M.Mažeika took it and that was it. The people of Šiauliai consolidated the victory with the fines of M. Lukukausk.
19-year-old Adomas Sidarevičius and Nojus Mineikis got a chance to debut at Betsafe-LKL when Neptūnas got weirder. The former lost 2 two points in 8 minutes, made a successful pass, made a mistake once and scored -2 utility points. On the second count – 9 points (3/7 trit.), 2 rebounds, 2 assists, error, 3 fouls, 1 provoked foul and 4 utility points.
E. Fridriksson made 12 successful passes and thus improved the Betsafe-LKL record this season, which previously belonged to him, Kristupas Žemaitis, Vaidas Kariniauskas and Marius Runkauskas. 21 points and 33 utility points is his personal season high.
