“The sinking of the ship in the Dane River is no longer at the bottom, but in the water, that’s the good news,” the mayor said on his Facebook account on Thursday.

This was also confirmed by BNS Dovilė Ringis, Deputy Director General for Public Relations of the Klaipėda State Port Authority. According to her, the ship is currently moored at the same dock on the River Dane.

According to the mayor, the intensive pumping of water from the occupied warehouses during the night managed to lift it and at least partially stabilize its condition.

According to V. Grubliauskas, after lifting the ship, it is still necessary to turn on the pumps and pump water every half hour, because there are three holes in the side of the ship. According to the mayor, it takes time to fill them.

“After that, there is a way to the dock, but probably not today. Therefore, the situation is monitored, controlled and coordinated with the necessary institutions, but we can only calm down when this ship is already on the dock,” said V. Grubliauskas.

On Sunday, the Klaipeda State Port Authority announced that the 30-meter-long ship Ole Wilassen had sunk overnight in Klaipeda on the Dane River near the castle harbor.

To prevent the possible entry of pollutants into the river and the water area of the port, the ship “Zunda” of the port authority surrounded the ship with bonnet barriers, later additional absorbent bonnets were built.

According to the Port Authority, the fishing vessel leaned dangerously along the river bank, but was not harmed, people were not injured. The reasons for the sinking of the ship have not yet been identified.

Ole Wilassen is a historic Norwegian boat built in 1948. The fishing boat was repaired in Klaipeda a couple of years ago.
