“I believe that in a democracy we can all have an opinion. Yes, the final decision is made by the Seimas. We will see,” said V. Šapoka.
“I am the Minister of Finance for this purpose, so I would coldly evaluate all the proposals: whether they are from the president, the Seimas or members of the Government,” added the minister, emphasizing once again that it is unsustainable to make additional commitments with borrowed money. .
“As for long-term financial liabilities, we will definitely not offer them, because it would be unsustainable to finance long-term liabilities with borrowed funds,” said V. Šapoka.
Earlier, Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis and leader of the “peasants” Ramūnas Karbauskis said that it would not be the finance minister who would decide whether or not to receive pension number 13, but rather the Seimas and the entire government.
President Gitan Nauseda, who met with the Association for the Elderly on Tuesday, says the proposed 13th pension is a less appropriate solution to the problem.
“(…) I think we should not deviate from our course of caring for the elderly, because that is a characteristic of a civilized state. We talk about the indexation being kept in the way it was intended, while the thirteenth pension is a less suitable solution, as it is entered as an absolute amount for everyone, regardless of the size of the pension. This is an unsustainable solution, “G. Nausėda told reporters in Tauragė on Tuesday.
