“I can’t stay here, I can’t stay after yesterday. You can’t look at yesterday’s events and think that I want to be a part of them in some way or form,” Mulvaney told CNBC.
Mulvaney, who was transferred to the administration after being transferred to work as a special envoy in Northern Ireland, said he had informed Secretary of State Mike Pompeo of his decision.
“It just came to our notice then. I can’t stay,” he said, adding that other White House staff were also considering leaving.

US media reported that Vice President Mike Pence’s chief of staff, Marc Short, had not been admitted to the White House, likely due to Pence’s decision to ignore Trump’s demand to block confirmation of Biden’s victory.
In Washington, outraged by the events on Wednesday, there have been rumors of a possible resignation of more high-ranking Trump administration officials.
Biden will assume the presidency after being sworn in on January 20.
