“It just came to our knowledge then. I am not talking about internal moods. In my opinion, they were an example of a healthy democracy, an active Seimas cannot remain silent. Politics without passions is almost impossible. The beginning of our work. It was not easy, the pandemic dictated and continues to dictate the agenda, ”V. Čmilytė-Nielsen told parliamentarians.

According to her, new MPs had to get to work as quickly and precisely as possible, because the intergovernmental pandemic did not stop, “therefore, every day after the oath had to be used to achieve concrete results.”

“I think we all appreciate it. We have seamlessly backed the Government, which has become exceptional not only in age but also in gender equality. We have approved a very relevant budget for next year, really relevant and adapted to the current situation. (…) We have taken an important step towards a more modern Seimas, guaranteeing the possibility of sitting at a distance ”, said the President of Parliament.

The Seimas of this period convened the first session on November 13. The new parliament approved the center-right government program, adopted this year’s budget and legalized the remote Seimas sessions, which began in January.

Ramūnas Karbauskis, leader of the Lithuanian Union of Greens and Peasants, resigned after the new rulers initially approved the candidate for vice president of the Seimas presented by the “peasants.” Antanas Guoga, who participated in the elections with the Labor Party list, also said he was resigning, and the Central Election Commission will consider his application next week.

The first session of this Seimas was extended until January 14 and the regular spring session begins on March 10.
