After learning the quarantine lessons, the educational community intends to be even better prepared for a possible start in distance learning. According to Zenonas Pošiūnas, director of Roziškis Juozas Tūbelis progymnasium, the school community has already provided platforms to use when starting a new quarantine. Training of teachers in information technology is actively carried out, plans for the purchase of computer equipment are being prepared.
“We also intend to create a STEAM class in the school, the technologies introduced in it would allow to organize hybrid lessons: part of the students would participate in the class, the remaining students would be able to watch the lesson remotely”, Z. Pošiūnas is quoted in the report.
Rūta Filončikienė, a primary school teacher at the Engineering Lyceum of the Vilnius Gediminas Technical University, believes that when she goes back to studying on screens, there will be no more confusion than in the spring. Emphasizes the importance of psychological preparation of students.
“Probably the most important thing is the psychological determination of the students that nothing will change, the lessons will not be interrupted, the communication will take place, we will meet every day, just again in a temporarily different way. Children are very reluctant to stay home again, ”says R. Filončikienė.
Developers of e-learning platforms are also preparing for a possible distance learning scenario. According to TAMO group manager Edgaras Jasalinis, throughout the summer the company responsibly prepared for a possible second quarantine in order to ensure a smooth and efficient training process.
“It is not just the server resources that we are adapting to increased user traffic. To make it easier for teachers to correct homework, we have supplemented EMA topics in the e-learning environment with self-correcting tasks. And so that communication in the TAMO electronic journal is more efficient, we will soon introduce a more convenient message management module ”, says E. Jasalinis.
According to him, the Microsoft Teams meeting creation platform built into the virtual lesson program will also help teachers to prepare lessons faster.
The education community is not only preparing for all possible scenarios for the school year, but is also looking forward to the additional funding promised for digital content. After the first month of the school year, the projected money for the schools has not yet been met. Vaidas Bacys, principal of the Šiauliai district Aukštelkė school, is concerned that the efficiency of the use of funds may be affected in this way.
“Schools are already facing a series of challenges, preparing for all possible scenarios. Stagnant funding does not allow us to test the desired digital platforms and adequately prepare for the new stage of distance education”, presents V. Bacys.
With ministry payments stalling, the school itself and e-learning platform developers must adapt. Entrepreneurs have provided schools with access to digital learning tools since the beginning of the school year, with flexible payment arrangements.
“The quarantine period taught us to adapt quickly to changing circumstances and offer solutions promptly. Although the funding took time, we ensured that teachers and students were able to use quality digital content from the beginning of the school year. schools will make the payment when they receive the funds provided ”, says the head of the TAMO group.
