“Congratulations to Barcelona. In the first half we got stuck in the fight for the balls and the rivals took advantage of that. In the second half, we fixed it and improved this aspect. In defense we played with aggression, activity, which allowed us to interrupt the transmission and thus cause its errors.
The attack failed to score points. Sometimes looking at the numbers is easy – we hit 11 percent. three points. Even so, these numbers are determined by the defense of the opponents, but hitting one (throw) there, another, helps in tense and persistent games, ”commented Schiller.
– Artūras Milaknis has been hanging lately. What determines this?
– Milas is in good physical shape and is a true professional. We’ve talked about this before. It seems to me that everything will be fixed with the hit. It sounds banal, but you must resign. These players are not prescriptive all the time. Its plus-minus rate was positive despite not reaching.
– You caused 24 errors, you took 17 balls. How big is the step for your team?
– A big step forward. We were more aggressive and active, we took better defensive positions. For us, this is a great positive step.
Schiller’s comment:
– The bench was very active today. Did you emphasize it before the game?
– Yes. I mentioned this at the meeting last week and I think the team responded well. The arenas are so empty and of course the fans can’t push us forward, but the advantage is that the empty arenas evoke the activity of the bank and the sound it makes. And that can have an impact on the game. The guys did a great job.
– How does it feel to have so much support from Paul Motiejūnas in the stands?
– Very well. As I said before, Paul’s support is excellent and sincere. In this project, we are together and we try to move the whole team forward. I can’t complain to anyone.
– What did you talk about with Jasikevičius after the game?
– He wished he was healthy. Shara called me again in the summer when I signed a contract with Žalgiris. We talked about the situation at the club and I think it was very nice of him. Today was the first time we met in person, so we shook hands and wished each other good luck.
– It seems that after the substitutions, “Žalgiris” is not trying to use the tall people he left in front of the defender. Is that so?
– We want to widen the field and attack taller opponents with shorter basketball players. Especially with players like Luke or Rock, who have a speed advantage over a taller forward.
– Before the start of the season, you said you felt pressure. Did you feel pressure today to defeat Jasikevičius?
– I don’t remember saying that because I never felt pressured. For real. Jasikevičius, of course, is a club legend and his shadow is quite large and visible. I feel this with every day that goes by at this job. This is not bad, it already is. I knew it as soon as I arrived, but I never felt pressure.
– November was an extremely difficult calendar. Are you looking forward to December with a little lighter rivals?
– I don’t look at the calendar, thinking of a stronger or weaker team, a more or less rich club. We expect one match at a time.
Looking at the Euroleague now, it reminds me in part of the NBA when we have results that, when looking at the lineups on paper, are difficult to explain. But not playing roles. All teams have difficult and crowded schedules in both local and international tournaments.
Think of Valencia’s ACB League victory against Barcelona on Tuesday. Two days later, they played for ALBA in Berlin. And looking at the table, ALBA kept winning. I know it sounds strange, but we watch everything in a match.
