A three-year contract with Arijus, a trucking and transportation company, was signed last week after unannounced negotiations, according to the purchase report.

According to the representative of SBGS, Giedrius Mišutis, at the beginning of August some 200 container houses should be built at the Border Guard School in Medininkai and up to 900 immigrants will be accommodated.

SBGS had announced a tender for the container lease, but ultimately signed a contract through unannounced negotiations to build the cabins as soon as possible.

“The tender was announced, there were bidders and after the queue it became clear that the tender would take a long time, at least ten days, if it was carried out in the usual way. As this is an object of extreme urgency and this situation is aggravated by the crisis of undocumented migrants, there is no place to house people, so (…) a contract was signed with the company that offered the lowest price ” , G. Mišutis told BNS.

According to him, if necessary, the huts will be able to be expanded by building a second floor in them.

Container house rental is currently funded from the budget, but the funds are expected to be covered by European Union funds at a later date. They will cost 1.5 thousand per month. euros.

Deputy Interior Minister Arnoldas Abramavičius told BNS earlier that migrants from border barriers, municipal premises, schools and other places will be transferred to this city.

This year, nearly 4,000 people crossed the border from Belarus into Lithuania. illegal migrants, tens of times more than in all of 2020.

Lithuania has declared an emergency situation due to the increase in illegal immigration. The country’s officials take the position that the increase in migratory flows is an organized action of the Minsk regime against Lithuania.
