S. Skvernelis does not change his position that A. Bilotaitė must resign: lack of elemental experience

“We just realized that we could talk. The challenge is so extraordinary, but, especially at the beginning, it seems that we all lack sufficient, determined, balanced, thoughtful and coherent action on the part of the Ministry of the Interior.

Either communication with the population, decisions about the tactics of our special services, or it would be very clear and well-defined objectives for the accommodation of migrants. Finally, to what extent are we defending our border, ”S. Skvernelis told LRT radio on Wednesday.

The politician is convinced that the Minister of the Interior lacks experience in many areas.

“Apparently, the lack of elementary, managerial, state experience and distraction only deepened that crisis,” he is convinced.

However, a member of the Lithuanian Green and Peasants Union (LVŽS) faction is convinced that, in the face of the migration crisis, the opposition remains quite constructive and makes proposals to address this situation.

“I had to make enough rational proposals, suffering for a long time and waiting for something to happen. Almost all of these proposals have been implemented or are being implemented, ”said the opposition leader.

Responding to the opinion of the ruling that the opposition should not criticize but help during the crisis, the “peasant” recalled how the conservatives and all the former opposition had treated the former majority in the face of the then new COVID-19 pandemic.

“Ms. Bilotaitė could remember the first pandemic and how the opposition behaved towards the Government at that time. We certainly do not, at least most of the opposition parties and factions make rational and concrete proposals, and in a moment in which we have had to deal with reckless criticism, we have certainly not received such constructive help. As always, in politics, the stick has two extremes, “recalled S. Skvernelis.

Praised by Conservatives

S. Skvernelis says that among the conservatives of the Seimas there are people who can more successfully handle the migration crisis.

“Certainly there are people among the conservatives who could handle this crisis much more successfully,” Skvernell told BNS on Wednesday.

However, the names of the former prime minister were not mentioned.

“Of course, but if I had to name a last name, someone would say that it would ruin the career of an opposition candidate and a man here. I really see that there are among the rulers and members of the Seimas who could really take that position, but here it is. the prerogative of the Prime Minister and the President, their arguments ”, said the parliamentarian.

“Naturally, the head of government defends each of his ministers, and so do I,” he added.

The opposition leader also said he believed that during the migration crisis, when maximum concentration was needed, the interior minister’s portfolio should be delegated to the highest ruling power in parliament.

“Border guards have become almost a non-accommodation, a public service instead of protecting the state border, there are no adequate reserves, there is no decision-making on public procurement in an emergency, both for accommodation services and for infrastructure, it really seems that sometimes good solutions are done, but too late, “he said.

He spoke of the situation in the peasant party.

The politician continues to take the position that the removal of Tom Tomilin from the Peasant Party is a loss, and the faction itself, in the opinion of the former prime minister, has also changed dramatically compared to the previous term.

“There are differences of opinion in all the parties, there are people who are expelled from the party, they are suspended, but there are certain procedures. “Really ‘wasting’ people, especially the party elders, who largely supported the identity of the party, worked with program documents in the field of social policy, human rights, I think this is a loss” said S. Skvernelis.

According to the opposition leader, the views of the LVŽS faction did not always coincide during the last legislature, but they were respected. “If you compare the group of ‘peasants’ from the last legislature, which was very large, very different people, we really saw a diversity of opinions, respect for another opinion, respect for a certain opponent,” Skvernell said, noting that even the group by the time Ramūnas Karbauskis was able to find compromises.

“Clearly, we then plunged into a desperate war with the conservatives who imposed the rules of the game on us. Outbursts of anger and hatred began on both sides. However, it was with a completely different spirit, Ramūnas Karbauskis himself, being the leader of the faction, was able to balance the solutions and find a compromise, ”he said.

However, the former prime minister believes that there have been certain changes in the “peasant” faction since the last Seimas elections.

“After the elections, something has changed a lot, it is not the people of LVŽS in 2016 who came with a very positive one, and then people trusted us (…), I think it is not even Rima Baškienė, Tomas Tomilinas , Stasys Jakeliūnas, Viktoras Pranckietis or the faction or party of Viktoras Rinkevičius, there have been changes, “reasoned the opposition leader.

The parliamentarian assures that although he is not a member of the LVŽS party, he is speaking with R. Karbauskis. However, it is said that the tactics of the peasant president are dictated by a single person. “The party chairman has chosen the right tactics. It is very unfortunate that such a tactic is generally ‘recommended’ to him by one person and he listens to it,” said S. Skvernelis.
