The gym students and their parents were simply built against the fact that classrooms and hallways are still on the construction site, other gym buildings will not accommodate all students, and it is inconvenient for educators to steal lessons when students are distributed in several schools.
After two months of quietly watching the gym revamp before September, it became clear that the builders were missing not just one night, as students are, but at least a month and a half.

“Distance learning was needed and made. Not because of the coronavirus threat, not because of an unforeseen disaster, emergency, but because of the renovation that is taking place, ”said Jurbarkiškės, who called the editorial office.
In the gym, as he said, it was still demolished. “The plumbing is dismantled, all the electricity is dismantled. It will take a long time there. According to the contract, the work should be finished by December 14, but now we are told that the lessons on the first and second floors will be available from October 15, ”said the woman.
She was outraged that just a week before the school year she couldn’t renovate even part of the premises.

“On Tuesday a meeting was held and on Wednesday we learned from the media that there will be distance learning,” Jurbarkiškė said. She said that distance learning is intimidating because of the example of spring. “It just came to our knowledge then. There were very dedicated teachers. But in some other cases, homework was simply asked, and that’s it. Independent work”, – taught the woman. According to her, students’ stress was also increased by the way the programs evaluated responses to assigned tasks. The supposedly correct answer, if the letter was omitted or the answer was presented differently, it was counted as incorrect.
The woman mentioned that the gym has a dormitory with classes, it has a separate building for the gym, there is a music school with classes nearby, and there are other rooms that could be used.

She believes repairs could take longer on October 15. “Only one plumber and two electricians work in the entire gym, although all the plumbing is completely destroyed. And two more builders are working from the field. I think the chances of finishing on time at that rate are nil”, the interlocutor does not believe .
The woman made no secret that the community agreed that repairs had long been needed. But it had to be done in parts, without scratching everything at once, Jurbarkiškės considered.
Mayor: There is no time to search for culprits.
The mayor of the Jurbarkas district municipality, Skirmantas Mockevičius, speaking to the kauno.diena.lt portal, assured the community that distance education is only temporary. “Only until October 15, until the premises are arranged in order of priority,” said the mayor, who said the electrical installation in the gym was being changed and the heating system was being renovated.
He noted that this distance learning will be different from spring because there will be direct consultations. Where and how they will take place will still be discussed.
“This week, the students are still studying directly, in the gym. The remote control will start next week. We hope that during that time, the teachers will agree on how and what. They will also talk to the students, explain why it is more useful than wandering around the different schools in the city, different spaces. Hopefully, most will agree. Of course, there are always those who think differently, “said S. Mockevičius.

In the winter, the gym, he said, was very cold. Sometimes the temperature reached only 14 degrees. “We want the school to be comfortable for the children themselves. For them. When a house is renovated there is also a lot of dust, but you need to work during that time and get the money only in July. We take every opportunity to prepare the infrastructure and environment for both students and teachers as soon as possible, ”explained the mayor.
He agreed that a decision of one kind or another had to be made earlier, not last week. “It just came to our attention then. We all recognized that. This is a lesson for next time. I don’t want to blame anyone. We have to stop blaming each other and look for solutions. When it comes to guilty records, there is no consensus. . We all recognized that everyone lacked the need to speak. We all take the blame. Students are really innocent. And parents. All other parties are partly to blame for the lack of communication. But I repeat once again: Lithuania needs an agreement, not a search for blame, ”agreed S. Mockevičius.
He hopes that “the community understands that this is on behalf of everyone. “It just came to our notice then. And we are talking with the contractors to get them finished faster, to finish installing the facilities. We want to hope that everyone will accept the situation for the sake of the future outcome,” said the district chief.

He hinted there were promises to guess everything by September, but construction jobs, the mayor noted, are unpredictable. “When you start the repairs, you want to change something else to make it even better. For example, there was talk of solutions that will be an electric trough. Then it was decided that they should be allowed to enter the wall. The change of decisions, the delayed hiring presupposes a result.When you do that work, it is likely that almost never happens that everything goes according to plan.
The mayor said he could not say whether the last school year, in which distance education took place for several months, differed somewhat from previous years in terms of twelfth-grade test results. “I still don’t have expert conclusions, but the teachers of some subjects said there was nothing special,” said S. Mockevičius.
He hopes that the current situation may have positive consequences in terms of controlling the spread of the coronavirus.
