S. Gentvilas believes that O.Vėbrienė recorded their conversation: “If there was pressure, let it be made public”

On Thursday, the Environment Minister, S. Gentvilas, attended a meeting of the opposition “peasant” faction and was asked about the pressure on the AAD director.

O.Vėbrienė addressed the Attorney General’s Office for the Minister’s conduct and the attempt to possibly “weaken state control over environmental protection” and received rapporteur status.

According to the minister himself, “there are no facts” about the pressure exerted by O.Vėbrienė.

S. Gentvilas claimed that he had seen the head of the AAD three times, twice in a platoon of other people, once in person in the Seimas office.

The last meeting, he said, lasted an hour and could be recorded.

“I have not written any personal letter on the issues mentioned and the situation mentioned. That is what I am assuming, a great assumption, that they recorded me at the third meeting,” he considered, asking that the recording, if any, be made public. .

“And if there was any pressure, I am politically determined to let this hour-long conversation go public. There are no other assumptions that I have ever pressured someone. The point,” said S. Gentvilas.

If there was any pressure there, I am politically determined to let this hour-long conversation go public.

He admitted that the commercial discussion with the director of the AAD O.Vėbriene did not take place, and that the conflict broke out should be reduced.

The ministry received complaints

S. Gentvilas tried to explain why the AAD received special attention from the Ministry of the Environment.

“Why might it seem disproportionate to focus on the Department of the Environment? We have received eight complaints about the activities of the department, four of them against the director. We have not received for other institutions.

Just as the department must examine all complaints of possible contamination, each founder must examine the complaints. These are investigations initiated on the basis of complaints, ”said S. Gentvilas.

Relations also did not turn out well after the oil spill at the Būtingė terminal late last year. An environmentalist, Donatas Bagočius, provided information about this incident to the Minister of the Environment, and O.Vėbrienė removed him from office.

The minister assured that he had learned of the incident not from an environmentalist, but from O.Vėbrienė. Although information was also requested.

“The second misconduct was with the Būtingė accident. Olga Vėbrienė informed me personally. I learned from her, I never said otherwise.

Because the Ministry of the Environment is in charge of emergency management <...>, we need all the information to choose both from the army and urgently to plan things. There was a little misunderstanding that when he asked the ordinary inspector, he … In my opinion, disproportionate measures were taken against him, ”said S. Gentvilas.

“I try to imagine, for example, how Saulius Skvernelis would react to one of the heads of a subordinate institution if he dismissed a person who had informed a member of the Commission on Emergency Situations. I don’t think a bit has happened here, ”the minister considered.

He assured that he did not know D. Bagčius and he was not his friend.

You think O.Vėbrienė could not reveal the information

S. Gentvilas wondered why O.Vėbrienė removed this environmentalist when he allegedly revealed the material from the pre-trial investigation, although he allegedly did the same when he posted on Facebook the amount of environmental damage caused by Grigeo Klaipėda.

“This material is the property of the prosecution and can only be published with the permission of the prosecution. <...> Believe me, “Grigeo Klaipėda’s lawyers will use this information to really dispute the process,” said S. Gentvilas.

Although there are disagreements with O. Vėbriene, the minister assured that the AAD works normally, the activities of the institution are not paralyzed.

He asked LVŽS not to politicize the dispute with O. Vėbriene, who had previously worked as a politically trusted official in the LVŽS government.

“During the last four years, there have been five non-competitive appointments in the activities of the respected Olga Vėbrienė, and these were basically positions of political trust. I urge your group not to politicize this process either. I feel and see this genre. If we want to maintain professionalism, do it together, “urged S. Gentvilas.

O.Vėbrienė also visited the “peasants”

Last week, the head of the AAD O.Vėbrienė also attended the meeting of the LVŽS faction.

Here it said that D. Bagčius had been removed from his post because he had collected information about the incident at the Būtingė terminal outside of working hours.

Also, that S. Gentvilas had called her to explain why there was a conflict with the Environmental Protection Agency.

“The minister called us to explain why he was approached by the prosecution. It was clarified that there will be no more actions of this type in the future. That we must find out inside, agree and not take the clothes to be washed in public,” he said O. Vėbrienė.

In its written responses, LVŽS S. Gentvilas admitted that it did not consider it necessary to contact prosecutors due to disagreements between the two institutions.

It does not seem acceptable to me that our institutions, which have to pursue a common goal, interpret relationships in trials.

“The only dissatisfaction I expressed was that the two cooperating institutions – subordinate institutions – do not seek justice and a solution in a joint table or remote conference, but are wasting time allocating resources from both institutions to interpret the relationship through the prosecution.

Now I complain that I was trying to bring two subordinate institutions together at a common table. “It is not acceptable to me that our institutions, which have to achieve the common goal – a clean environment and combat pollution, clarify the relationship with the claims,” he said.

The AAD asked the prosecution for a decision from the Environmental Protection Agency not to revoke the IPPC permit for a polluter.
