“In response to hostile actions by the British authorities and on the basis of reciprocity, the Russian side has decided to impose personal sanctions on 25 British representatives who have been banned from entering Russian territory,” the Foreign Ministry said. of Russia (MFA) in a statement.

In July, the UK imposed sanctions on 25 Russian officials on suspicion of having contributed to the death of lawyer Sergei Magnitsky. Officials have been banned from entering the UK and their holdings in the UK have been frozen.

Among the sanctioned officials is Alexander Bastrykin, chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee, directly responsible to Vladimir Putin.
