S. Janson listed several major works planned for this year on state-important highways.
“According to the agreements concluded last year, the works on the road from Vilnius to Kaunas will continue. Reconstruction works on separate sections of the Vilnius-Kaunas highway have been fully completed, but the entire project will finally be implemented in September this year.. The main objective of the reconstruction works carried out in this section is to guarantee road safety requirements that meet the conditions of roads of such intensity.
Only when the necessary technical and safety requirements are met and when the road meets the requirements applicable to the highway, it will be possible to drive at 130 km / h in summer and 110 km / h in winter.
During the execution of the project of the main highway A1 Vilnius – Kaunas – Klaipėda, on the section from Vilnius to Kaunas, metal protective barriers are being replaced in the dividing road strip and network fences against wild animals are being installed in part of the sections of road. Acceleration and deceleration lanes are also being rebuilt, roads and pedestrian crossings are being installed at different levels, speed control and alert systems are being installed, lighting is being installed and other works are being carried out, ”he said.

Shortly, the Directorate will announce a tender for the preparation of a technical work project for the reconstruction of the national highway A14 Vilnius – Utena section from 21.50 to 39.20 km (together with the selection and preparation of alternative pre-design solutions) and project execution supervision services.
“It will take place in 2021-2022. After that, contract work will take place,” S. Janson said.
“In 2021, the design of the section of the A5 Kaunas – Marijampolė – Suvalkai highway from 56.83 to 97.06 km will continue, and it is expected to complete the procedures for the acquisition of land for public needs. Technical projects for the reconstruction of said road section are also being prepared and an environmental impact assessment of the economic activities is being carried out. It is planned to complete the land acquisition procedures and the design of the remaining section by 2022 and to begin construction works in the same year.
This year, it is planned to start preparing pre-design solutions for the next part of Via Baltica, that is, from Kaunas to the border with Latvia (sections of the state main roads A8 Panevėžys – Aristava – Sitkūnai and A10 Panevėžys – Pasvalys – Riga) ”He added.
