The peasant Viktoras Rinkevičius does not currently work in the Seimas, but has been elected representative of the nation up to three times. And although the oath has been repeated to the state, law enforcement now suspects that the Žydruva real estate rental company in Biržai, whose shareholder is Rinkevičius, may have engaged in large-scale document fraud and falsification.
“I don’t know, well, as far as I understand, I have received complaints that maybe we are opaque here, or something, I don’t know exactly, I can’t say anything. And now investigating, I really want to investigate, I do not feel that I have committed any crime and done something illegal. Maybe it’s about politics here, you know, it’s hard to say, “says V. Rinkevičius.
The FNTT has not yet commented on the investigation, more information is promised on Monday. The company is run by the “farmer’s” wife and himself
Although he interacted with officials, he says he was not detained or questioned. But he decided to suspend membership in the party.
“I spoke with the deputy and told him that I would suspend the membership, recently we talked that there would be no shadows for anyone, until I investigate, I will suspend the membership,” says V. Rinkevičius.
“Knowing that accusations are seldom made against members of our party, and generally not confirmed, I think this case may be the same,” is convinced Ramūnas Karbauskis, a peasant leader.
Law enforcement operations are sounding pretty strong these weeks. Last week, the FNTT conducted a search of the Fertility Clinic, which is run by President Algirdas Mykolas Brazauskas’ son-in-law, Algirdas Usonis. Around 50 searches were carried out, 9 people were arrested and about half a million euros in cash were found. The clinic is suspected of hiding the earnings and therefore may not have posted at least one million euros.
This week, the police also targeted Rimandas Stonis, one of the richest businessmen in the country, owner of the Kaunas cogeneration plant. Officials suspect that the fraud could have caused more than a million euros in damage to the state.
For its part, the Special Investigation Service shook the country’s treatment facilities this week. It is suspected that some acquisitions were opaque, agreed in advance with businessmen, and they paid bribes to hospital managers. The investigation presents more than 100 crimes related to corruption in ten medical institutions. The complaints were made to the managers of 6 hospitals.
