“Since childhood, when I had to live with my parents, my grandmother and my brother in a small room all together, a lifelong image has accompanied me: a bookcase. We didn’t have a lot of things or space, but there was a shelf. And on the shelf were books that became guests at the hands of Mom. Dad and grandmother read too, ”priest Doveika shares his memories. – We were used to the book – to the respectful treatment of it. So, for me, the book of sacred truth is in the palms of my hands. Now that I have many bookshelves at home, I realize that the thought is deeply heard: “He who reads books is guided by those who watch television.”
R. Doveika recalls that not only their mother and grandmother read to them, but they also got used to reading them: the children: “I am especially grateful to my mother for her instilled love of books and reading. With us, books were not put on the shelf for beauty, but for reading to gain wisdom.
The priest R. Doveika is also one of the readers of Christmas stories in the special show “Fairytale Christmas”, which is one of the initiatives of the “Christmas in the Capital” project. Every night on Delfi TV from 8 pm children and parents can listen to a magical tale read by Lithuanian acquaintances.
The goal of the project is to encourage parents and children to read. The benefits of reading are immeasurable. Reading increases the feeling of happiness, reduces stress, strengthens motivation to achieve goals, develops eloquence and self-confidence, empathy. During this period, the pandemic limited travel opportunities, festive events, which for many had turned into December. in ordinary rituals, but the opportunity to travel with the heroes of the fairy tale through the pages of the book that was being read remained. As we read, we can feel the pleasure of the adventure, learn from the wisdom, kindness and compassion of the heroes of the book. And keep hoping that good always defeats evil.
R. Doveika will read Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s play “The Little Prince” on December 26. 8 pm on Delfi TV. And when asked which fairy tale is first shot in the head, which he could quickly tell the children, he says: “They will not believe it, but often, especially when I remember the home and childhood of a father, always I remember a fairy tale that my grandmother sect. ” She followed me as I lay next to her, she followed me by heart, then I realized that I was creating it on the fly, scraping my head and back. Those moments were special. For at least one re-listened to the story of the grandmother, lying next to him and feeling the play of her fingers in her hair, it would give a lot. She told how the beasts of the forest organized the celebration, she could tell this fairy tale in an impromptu way, because she was born at work, here, now, directly and not from the pages of the book. I am very proud to follow at least one fairy tale without reading the book. She is the most beautiful for me, because she learned by heart on her grandmother’s knees. “
We invite everyone to read and remember! Create a festive atmosphere with “Fairytale Christmas” every night starting at 8 pm on Delfi TV. The full list of fairy tales and readers can be found HERE.
