The first round of the Seimas elections has ended. The inhabitants of Panevėžys terminated their employment contract and did not leave the non-partisan Povilas Urbšis al Seimas for the third term.
The singles who reached the second round are back at the starting line and this time their political fight will be decisive.
P. Urbšys, who had resigned from the Panevėžys members of the Seimas for two terms (eight years), obtained 2,631 (16.15%) votes and remained third in the political competitions of this district. In a couple of weeks, Indiana Grigienė, candidate of the National Union – Lithuanian Christian Democrats (TS-LKD), representative of the opposition of the City Council (3173 voters) and candidate of the Lithuanian Union of Peasants and Greens (LVŽS), Devidas Labanavičius , Deputy Mayor of Panevėžys, will compete for the term of a member of the Seimas. votes).
In the Nevėžis constituency, Kęstutis Lukoševičius, City Council Member, City Council Member and Bronislovas Matelis, Second Term Delegate, TS-LKD, will also nominate for the term of a Seimas member. 3,761 (25.83%) voted for the latter and 2,260 (15.52%) voters in this constituency who went to the polls for K. Lukoševičius.
In Panevėžys, voters’ votes were probably counted in the Aukštaitija electoral district, which includes a part of the city and a part of the district. It repeats the scenario of 2016, when candidates LVŽS and TS-LKD competed in the second round.
And this time the final was reached by the representatives of the same parties: the LVŽS candidate with the most votes, the current MP Guoda Burokienė and the TS-LKD representative, the Panevėžys councilor, Jurga Girdzijauskienė.
3,186 voters voted for G. Burokienė and 2,887 voters wanted to see J. Girdzijauskienė at the Seimas.
Four years ago, G. Burokienė also won the mandate of a member of the Seimas in this constituency. This time he obtained 8,557 (62.38%) votes in the second round, beating then-TS-LKD candidate Rasa Juknevičienė. The latter was elected to the Seimas through the party’s multi-member roster.
