“We hope that this place will become an attractive recreational space for the people of the nearby residential area, at the same time that a modern infrastructure is created for the residents who come to the nearby commerce and other service institutions. We also hope that private initiatives aimed at renovating some of the buildings near the square, one of which is the former Vaidila Cinema, will be successfully implemented. Through joint efforts, this space will once again acquire a new quality ”, says Gintaras Neniškis, director of the municipal administration.
In the renovated space next to the former “Vaidila” cinema, residents will be invited to the recreation area, a stage closer to Taikos avenue, a playground and rubber climbing hills for the free time of the little Klaipeda residents, green areas and vegetation. . There will be energy-saving lighting along the path and throughout the square, and a new section of the bike path will run along the square, connecting Taikos avenue and the Ąžuolynas forest. During the implementation of the project, the fountain was also renovated and will be decorated with restored sculptures reminiscent of the history of Klaipėda in the 1970s: Vaidila, Aitvaras and Bildukas.
“We wanted the square not only to be renovated, but also to preserve its authenticity. The sculptures – Vaidila, Aitvaras and Bildukas, whose names used to be restaurant, cinema and shop, were the distinctive feature of this square, and their names have not disappeared from the lips of Klaipeda residents until now. I am glad that during the reconstruction the sculptures were successfully restored and I hope that they will decorate the renovated space for many years and delight the residents of Klaipėda, ”says the head of the municipal administration. adviser Inga Kubilienė.
According to I. Kubilienė, there is very little work left in the square: completing the installation of the fountain, completing the installation of benches, garbage cans, building information booths.
The value of the reconstruction of the public space near the old Vaidila Cinema is 1.7 million. euros. The renovation of the nearby cycling and pedestrian route is also being completed from January 15 to Kauno Street (along Taikos Avenue), and the nearby Ąžuolynas grove was renovated last year.
