The quarantine, which disrupted the normal rhythm of life for many, gave travelers more freedom and space to manage the city streets.
According to Aloyzas Pakalniškis, head of the City Administration Department of the Kaunas City Municipality, although quarantine restrictions caused some inconvenience for many people, significantly reduced traffic flows allowed for faster and safer street administration work.
“For example, when A. Baranauskas street was repaired, it was considered to stop traffic completely, but due to the decrease in car traffic, the works could have been carried out without closing the street. At that time, we finished repairing some smaller streets faster than we had planned, ”said A. Pakalniškis about the favorable time for road users.
Complex upgrade
The reform of 11 March Street began with the renovation of the sidewalks and underground networks between V. Krėvė and Taikos Avenue. The repair of the roadway, footpaths, and bike path in this section is planned for completion in the fall. The red bike path will run on the right side of the section from Savanorių to Taikos Avenue, and a common bike and pedestrian path will be built.
“The street is long and is being carried out by various contractors at different times and in different locations. Demolition and road installation work is currently underway, with approximately ten employees working daily. Underground communications are renewed in parallel. Later, there will be a turn for the section between Savanorių avenue and Partizanų street, ”said A. Pakalniškis.
Focus on the intersection pavement
According to the interlocutor, it is planned to pay special attention to the renovation of the street pavement at all the intersections of the 11th street of Kovo: Therefore, we will strengthen these places, we will install quality foundations so that the coating lasts as long as possible ” .
To ensure traffic safety and driver comfort, the 2.8 km long street will be rebuilt with parking lots and equipped with longitudinal parking.
