Regitra reminds that for vehicles purchased before these changes and not registered in the country, the code must be obtained before July 31st.
It can be simply removed online for free. Well, if the vehicles were registered in the Registry before May 1, the SDK was generated automatically and their owners do not need to do anything else.
According to the Road Safety Law, if the vehicle was purchased before May 1. and has not been registered in Lithuania, its owner must apply to Regitra and notify him of the vehicle that he owns and obtain an SDK.
There is a 3-month transition period until July 31. Towards the end of this period, Regitra invites owners who have not yet requested an SDK to do so before the end of the month. This is also the case for those whose vehicles were decommissioned before the innovation took effect.
There is no need to physically go to the unit to obtain the SDK as the code can be retrieved simply online by submitting a procurement statement along with supporting documents. For example: a contract of sale, inheritance documents, etc.
As declaration of ownership and registration of a vehicle are currently two separate processes, registering a vehicle in your own name with the Registry is not mandatory upon receipt of the SDK, if it is not intended to participate in public traffic.
It is also important to know that in case a vehicle is planned to be sold or registered, an SDK must be obtained before performing these steps and not wait for the end of July.
We remind you that until May 1. For all domestically registered vehicles (except those temporarily registered and exported abroad), of which there were around 2 million, the SDK was generated automatically and free of charge.
From May 1. Around 168 thousand new SDK codes were issued, of which around 110 thousand only in electronic space. or about 66 percent.
