Record number of COVID-19: 3,418 new coronavirus cases diagnosed, 44 people died

People ages 40 to 99 died

44 people died from COVID-19 last day, ranging in age from 40 to 99, according to data released by Statistics Lithuania on Wednesday.

The highest number (14) of deaths occurred between the ages of 80 and 89.

12 people belonged to the age group 70 to 79 years. The eight dead were between 50 and 59 years old. Six people were in the 90 to 99 age group and three were in the 60 to 69 age group.

A person between 40 and 49 years old also died.

There were 13 deaths in Kaunas, 10 in Vilnius, five in Panevėžys, four in Šiauliai, three in Marijampolė and Tauragė, two in Klaipėda and Telšiai, one in Utena and Alytus counties.

29 men and 15 women died on the last day.

More than 2.3 thousand patients are treated in hospitals. COVID-19 patients

Hospitals treat 2,307 coronavirus patients, 184 of them in resuscitation. 1256 patients need oxygen, 124 people receive artificial lung ventilation.

Currently, approximately half of the hospital beds are occupied: 8,439 of the 16,000. 668.

Of the 685 resuscitation beds, approximately two-thirds are occupied, 420. Of the 637 beds that can be operated with artificial pulmonary ventilation, 268 are occupied and of the 6,380 beds with oxygen, 2,194 are occupied.

Lithuania is currently one of the countries most affected by COVID-19 in Europe. In response, the government extended the quarantine regime for COVID-19 until January 31 and tightened its conditions. The new restrictions have already come into effect. Read more about them – here.

The new restrictions apply to all people living in Lithuania; there are no exceptions not even for those who have already had COVID-19 and are not currently threatening themselves or others.

As of Wednesday, with the entry into force of the inter-municipal travel ban, the Vilnius Municipality has announced that it will close or control more than 30 entrances to the city.

Klaipeda and Kaunas It also reported specific blocked sites, the Vilnius Municipality does not intend to do so to prevent attempts to circumvent the bans.

Starting Wednesday, preschool and preschool education institutions “will function normally”, but it is recommended to go to educational institutions “only for children whose parents cannot work remotely and take care of them at home.
