Šarūnas Jasikevičius failed to win the first title with the Barcelona team on the second attempt.
He led the team in the final of the Tenerife Super Cup 67:72 (14:18, 18:13, 17:19, 18:22) fell dramatically to Real Madrid. Before that, Barça lost the final of the Catalan Cup.
When the Barcelona team was 67:69 behind, the ball belonged to Jasikevičius’s students. Adam Hanga, who took the initiative, ran towards the basket, but Rudy Fernández threw the ball out of the opponent’s hand and flew to the edge of the Barcelona representative.
Facundo Campazzo, who was stopped for a foul, noticed a penalty and Barça still had about 10 seconds – 67:70.
Nikola Mirotičius, who took the ball, was stopped and passed the ball to Hangai, whose shot from distance missed the goal and for the third year in a row, Real triumphed in the Super Cup. Overall, the title went to the Madrid team for the seventh time.
The most useful player was Campazzo, who scored 21 points (4/9 dvit., 2/6 trit., 7/11 penalties) in 34 minutes, 4 rebounds, 2 assists, 8 inflicted fouls and 19 utility points.
The Catalans did not save Mirotičius, who scored a third of the club’s points, scored 22 points in 29 minutes (5/7 doubles, 3/4 trit., 3/5 penalty), bounced 7 balls and captured the utility of 28 points.
“Real”: Facundo Campazzo 21, Alberto Abalde 13, Gabrielis Deckas 11.
Barcelona: Nikola Mirotichic 22 (7th rep.), Brandon Davies 12 (8th rep., 3 res.), Nick Calathes 11 (5/13 shots, 5 repetitions).
