“Today was a long day at the Seimas, but that day is not over yet, because until now the exits of the Seimas have been blocked by the protesting crowd. Some members of the Seimas who remain in the Seimas cannot leave safely, ”said TV Raskevičius in his Facebook history.
The Freedom Group MP said he saw a crowd of 50-100 people blocking the exit through the window, audible signals were heard during the broadcast, “shame” and “cowards” were chanted. According to TV Raskevičius, some MPs were advised not to leave the building.
“Some members of the Seimas were advised not to leave the Seimas. So it goes now and I am waiting for it to finish. I hope it is not necessary to spend the night at the Seimas,” said the president of the HRC, emphasizing at the same time that such actions are a violation of the law.
“The rally that took place during the day, I think, is just a manifestation of the opinion and freedom of expression of a certain group of society, but the rally and the permission that was granted ended at five in the afternoon. The Meetings Law stipulates that meetings shall not be held closer than 75 meters from the Seimas building. These are the people who are currently blocking the exit of the Seimas and are simply violating the laws of our country, ”he emphasized.
For this reason, the politician pointed out at the same time that “democracy and human rights are not anarchy”, and expressed the expectation that the scene of the attack on the United States Capitol will not be repeated in Lithuania and that officials will react in time.
“I am very hopeful that our law enforcement authorities, the police, will react really quickly to these incidents. If we do not have a clear position on this issue, apparently the mob rule will soon attack the Seimas in the same way that the Capitol was stormed to earlier this year, ”said TV Raskevičius.
