Representatives of South Korean President Moon Jae Ino issued a statement in which the North Korean leader had personally apologized and said that “an incident of this nature should not have occurred.”
South Korea has previously announced that a 47-year-old fisheries official has gone missing while on patrol boat. The man was also reportedly shot and then oil was poured on him and burned.
A South Korean official is reported to have tried to enter North Korea illegally, but was patrolled by a border guard and shot. Apparently, due to the danger of the coronavirus, his body was burned.
The BBC reports that the border between Korea is heavily guarded and North Korean soldiers are ordered to fire without warning to prevent the coronavirus from entering the country.
According to South Korea, Moon Jae Inas received the apology in the form of a letter. He claims that an incident of this nature “should not have happened.”
Kim Jong Un wrote that he “apologizes very much for Moon Jae Ina’s disappointment,” according to the Yonhap news agency.
North Korea also announced the details of the incident: 10 shots were fired at the man.
