R. Mikailionytė, who used to walk on the podium and is now more often found in the garden or in the flowerbed, created the “City Gardener” collection and renovated the greenery of Rūdninkai Square in cooperation with the clothing brand from active leisure “Audimas”. In the green spaces of the square, flower gardens were formed and expanded, where 62 shrubs were planted with only roses, as well as perennials, oregano, yarrow, yarrow, meadows and herbs. In total, up to 22 different plant species.
“I really wanted to have a rose in the city. It is no coincidence that you have chosen roses: there are many meanings in your flowers. For me, it is a symbol of aristocracy, sacred, love and death, femininity – the queen of flowers. We planted flower beds, all the roses come from the “Siberia Rose”, the varieties were selected to be resistant to cold and diseases, each plant tells its own story, so it was not easy to combine them. At the same time, I wanted to say that the rose is not a spoiled and pretentious plant, which can perfectly integrate into modern and historical urban spaces, ring and flourish, delight people. R.Mikailionytė tells of the rose in Rūdninkai Square.

The renovation of Rūdninkai Square was aimed at preserving the habits of the people who visited and lived in the neighborhood. New flower beds were formed in place of the old ones, expanding them slightly and setting stricter floral boundaries. The old plants were moved to other areas of the city, preparing the ground for the new rose. In addition, not only were the green spaces renovated, but also new benches and bins were built, slab holes were cleaned, and dried green rowan branches were cleared from the square. According to R. Mikailionytė, the renovation of the square required a lot of manual work, but the work does not end here, it will also be necessary to pay attention to the square in the future.
The renovation of the square was inspired by the desire to leave lasting value
Renata Mikailionytė’s latest fall / winter capsule collection “City Gardener” was inspired by the renovation of Rūdninkai Square. the functionality of the casual clothing manufacturer and the technologies developed.
“The identity of a person is very important to me, and everyday clothes should not obscure it, on the contrary, they should serve them. Therefore, the functionality of the garment is one of the most important characteristics. Another equally important feature is the easy adaptability of the garment to fit in a person’s closet with the clothes they already have. This is important when buying and designing clothes. The fabrics were very careful so that the person feels comfortable in autumn and winter. All this combines my experience both as a gardener and as a clothing designer ”, says the creator about the collaboration that unites the two great passions of life.
