R. Karbauskis on the fate of Lukiškės Square: there are two suggestions

According to R. Karbauskis, one of the proposals of the working group formed by the Government is to sign a new loan contract with the Vilnius City Council, defining very clearly to comply with the law adopted by the Seimas on the state of Lukiškės Square.

The second proposal is to hand over the maintenance of Lukiškės square to LGGRTC.

“As far as I understand, the government tends to decide on the second option, because the first option – renew the loan contract with the Municipality of Vilnius, we face the problem that the city is run by a mayor who belongs to a party that he wants to legalize drugs and so on. Therefore, it is not natural for us to believe that these people will follow the law with that thought, “R. Karbauskis told reporters at Seimas on Thursday.

According to R. Karbauskis, if Lukiškės Square is managed by LGGRTC, there will be much less risks and opportunities to manipulate the law and public opinion in some way.

“If we talk about values, the events must take place there; several events and an ice rink can be installed in winter. But there will be no more beaches and bullying like the people who were murdered in this square there,” commented the leader ” farmer “.

R.Karbauskis said that the working group formed by the government does not solve the problem of the monument in Lukiškės square.

“But we talked to each other that voluntary decisions are really needed. I don’t know if there will be enough time for this Government to make a voluntary decision based on what the Seimas has decided. If this will be a matter for the next term, I don’t know. One thing is clear: the Seimas expressed their will by passing a law. And in this case, the government can make a decision, ”said the president of the Seimas Culture Committee.
