Monday 15 minutes R. Karbauskis said that decisions related to previous education are already being implemented: “I want to clarify that those proposals were named maybe a year and a half or a year ago, I do not remember exactly when, the academic E.Jovaiša. We have supported them. Educational counselors are apparently not very aware of this nuance. There are solutions already being implemented. “
Exactly at what stage of that implementation, the politician said he did not know, but pointed out that the desire to advance education is reflected in the Government’s program, which is discussed in the Seimas, in the faction.
That opinion has been expressed for a long time, there is no news here.
“I can only say that I am very happy that the president supports the proposals of academic E. Jovaiša and the opinion of the Education Committee. Only the title of the article should sound different, that the president agrees with the opinion, because that opinion it was expressed a long time ago, there is no news here ”, added the president of LVŽS.
Asked if he would return to the subject of previous education during this term of the Seimas, R. Karbauskis questioned if there would be time for that: “I don’t know. I’m not sure, again these are certain procedures. I can’t even answer now what phase it is now. “
At the beginning of the new school year President Gitanas Nausėda announced on Monday that he would table amendments to the Seimas about the early education of children. According to them, preschool education would begin for children from the age of five, primary – from the age of six.
The head of state also proposed the introduction of compulsory preschool education for children from families at social risk.
E.Samoškaitė: compulsory pre-school education already exists
The adviser to the Minister of Social Security and Labor, Eglė Samoškaitė, reiterated that this issue already exists, although it is rarely mentioned.
“The president is proposing something that already exists. It is compulsory preschool education for children from families at social risk. This compulsory education is granted by decision of the director of the municipal administration.
Of course, there are not many children of this type, because the municipalities are a bit reluctant to provide compulsory preschool education for the children of those families, because then it really must be guaranteed: to have such kindergartens, to be educators, to care, etc. “she wrote on Facebook.

“It just came to our knowledge then. It would be good to read what is already there and offer something to improve not just as a new idea before proposing,” added the advisor.
The Government of Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis has included in its program the goal of starting pre-school education for children aged 5 to 6 years and primary education for 6 to 7 years.
In 2017, the Seimas, at the initiative of the Education and Science Committee, amended the Education and agreed that children can attend preschool groups from the age of five by decision of their parents. However, children as young as six are generally admitted and primary education begins at seven.
E. Jovaiša: it will take at least four years
The chairman of the Education and Science Committee of the Seimas, E. Jovaiša, responded positively to the president’s wish to promote education.
“This is what to do in Lithuania. With the rapid development of youth, we keep it in school for too long. […] There are a number of serious global studies showing that early education is more conducive to education, more conducive to society. But not only that. As soon as the child is worked on, even the criminogenic situation improves due to previous education.
I support all this, but I know the concerns of parents, teachers, it will not be easy to do. There may be resistance, misunderstandings, “commented a member of the Seimas.

It is true that he said that he was convinced that the previous education would not be introduced next year. This, according to the politician, requires resources.
“It will take at least four years because the infrastructure needs to be developed. Let’s say children start learning at age six. Is there a difference between seven years? There is: some still need to fall asleep, some don’t. After all, textbooks should be different, leveling the time. The first year of start will be when one wave is six years old and the other is seven years old. The teacher needs to be qualified and supported to acquire new competencies, “taught E. Jovaiša.
Compulsory preschool education, in his opinion, should be introduced not only for children who grow up in families at social risk, but for everyone. But according to E. Jovaiša, it also costs money, so it is worth choosing priorities.
There is no need to go exclusive here.
“I think it is not necessary to make an exclusivity here: preschool education would be good for all Lithuanian children. But again, it is necessary to decide what we consider a priority: that all children start compulsory preschool education, the resources are also very large, already Whether it is important for us to be five or six years old instead of six or seven ”, considered the member of Seimas.
TS-LKD: There are risks
TS-LKD president Gabrielius Landsbergis did not comment on the president’s initiative regarding past education. This was done by the candidate for the Seimas, the conservative Jurgita Šiugždinienė.
The proposal to advance preschool and primary education, according to her, should be considered, although there are risks.
“The risks are related to the preparation of preschool educators to educate children, including 29.6 percent. preschool teachers have no higher education. Not to mention pedagogical education.
The kindergarten shortage will definitely be felt. Everything should be implemented consistently, without rushing to do it in a year. We need to be well prepared for this change ”, commented the politician.

According to her, TS-LKD supports all children who grow up in families at social risk to attend preschool educational institutions.
“In our program, we propose to link the money for children allocated to families at social risk with compulsory preschool education and remove all incentives not to send children to kindergarten and guarantee transportation to kindergartens,” said J Šiugždinienė, who is preparing for the Seimas elections.
But overall, he said, the focus today should be on preparing for the new school year.
It’s hard to talk about long-term change when you don’t coordinate or prepare for the basics and basics.
“It is difficult to talk about long-term change when we cannot coordinate and prepare for core and core subjects: parents, teachers, preschool communities complain that they are left in the dark, alone, without the normal help, advice and recommendations on how to organize education in the face of a coronavirus pandemic. ” – including J.Šiugždinienė.
Conservatives working in the opposition on the issue held a meeting with representatives of the education unions on Monday. More about this – here.
