Peasant leader Ramūnas Karbauskis says that while he understands that the agreement on educational policy guidelines is very important for Lithuania, the differences in existing attitudes and the implicit “behind-the-scenes games” of the rulers make it difficult to continue working together.
Eugenijus Jovaiša, a member of the Lithuanian Greens and Peasants Union (LVŽS) faction, does not rule out the fact that peasants may withdraw from their ambitions to prepare a joint party agreement on education. It is his opinion, said R. Karbauskis, that the position of the peasants on this issue will largely depend on it. And because of that, says E. Jovaiša, the opposition peasants will probably make a decision next week.
“Our representative in this working group, Academician Jovaiša, has expressed his disappointment with the way the work is progressing there and has said that if he sees that the work does not make sense, he will inform the group and offer to leave the job. group. His statement was in the faction, I heard him, “said R. Karbauskis, leader of the LVŽS shadow cabinet.
“I understand from the academic’s comments that the organization of the process has a different purpose, not an agreement, but an imposition,” said the politician.
R. Karbauskis does not trust the rulers: he does not want the peasants to have to give explanations to the public
And although R. Karbauskis seemed to understand that the subsequent work of the peasants in the group that prepares the national agreement on education will depend on the verdict of E. Jovaiša, at the same time the politician did not hide that he was very skeptical about the situation. possibility to put the signature under the document.
On the one hand, the peasant leader pointed out that the ideological differences and attitudes towards education between the ruler and the opposition are too great to reach an agreement.
“The parties have very different opinions on education. The liberal and conservative parties see educational problems differently in the regions. When you look at national defense, it is easier there. At that time, the differences in education were categorical”, he said, recalling the agreement between the parties on defense spending signed during the last Seimas legislature, Liberals, Conservatives and peasants alike helped sign this document.
On the other hand, not hidden by politicians, a crucial argument against the agreement is the perceived desire of the rulers to treacherously impose their views and interests. R. Karbauskis said he was troubled by a thought. The politician suspected that the rulers did not seek so much to agree on the guidelines of educational policy, but that they were about to impose their will and attitude on future educational policy.
“So far, as I understand it, there is no way for the rulers to think in common denominators. It is thought that we might be able to impose something on ourselves ”, feared the farmer.
R. Karbauskis recalled that at the end of March the peasant faction of the Seimas withdrew from the working group formed by the parliamentary council, which is preparing for the reform of the electoral system. This decision by the LVŽS faction, as the politician put it, was made after realizing that the conservatives simply want to use the opposition to implement the electoral system in Lithuania that benefits them. It is not yet clear whether it will be necessary to withdraw from the working group that elaborates the guidelines of the National Education Agreement, said R. Karbauskis.
“I am waiting for the academic of that moment (when he will say – ELTA): men and women, here is the same game, here is an attempt to say that they (farmers – ELTA) are involved … And then we will have to explain and justify to the public opinion “that we are not involved in that, that we cannot accept such nonsense,” he said.
“We are still involved in the work on the education agreement, because we are not one hundred percent sure that it is not the same game of the rulers as the electoral reform, it is not an agreement, but an attempt to show that they are taking conduct negotiations. ” … And then the peasants run and explain ”, said R. Karbauskis.
LVŽS representative in the negotiations of the parties on education: we will draw conclusions on the agreement next week
E. Jovaiša, representative of the peasants in the parties’ education negotiations, stated that the conclusions on whether it is worth continuing to participate in this process would be made after April 23. scheduled meeting of the party-led education group.
“The next meeting is very important, in which direction we will take,” E. Jovaiša told Eltai.
“If we don’t get to the heart of the matter, then I won’t see the possibility of continuing the negotiations,” he said.
It is true that E. Jovaiša himself stated that the task delegated to him by the faction to participate in negotiations with other parties also means responsibility, so he does not want to put an end to this process and say that the peasants should withdraw from the negotiations. .
“I don’t want to be so categorical, I want to see the next meeting as it unfolds and if we go in that direction. Still, I represent a great political force and wasting such ultimatums is not my character. I want to emphasize that I and the farmers are not satisfied with the current course, “said E. Jovaiša.
According to the campesino representative, the greatest skepticism about continuing to work on the agreement is the fear that the document will become a “parade of proposals” in which all parties can put their wishes on record. E. Jovaiša states that he wants the parties to try to agree on several specific common goals.
“In the understanding of our group, the national agreement has specific goals and objectives and concrete measures to implement them,” said E. Jovaiša.
“When you talk about the parade of proposals, then the expectations of many actors in education will not be met,” said a peasant representative in the negotiations.
ELTA recalls that at the beginning of March, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė initiated the first meeting with the representatives appointed by the factions of the political parties in the Seimas to discuss the course of the National Agreement on Written Education. Education, Science and Sports Minister Jurgita Šiugždinienė has said that the Party Agreement on Education is expected to be approved during the spring session.
The meeting was attended by representatives of the political parties Artūras Žukauskas (Freedom Party), Radvilė Morkūnaitė – Mikulėnienė (Union of the Fatherland – Lithuanian Christian Democrats), Raimondas Lopata (Liberal Movement of the Republic of Lithuania), Ieva Kačinskaitė-Urbonienė (Lithuanian Labor Party), party), Eugenijus Jovaiša (Union of Lithuanian Greens and Peasants) and Algirdas Butkevičius and Beata Petkevič, representatives of the Mixed Seimas group.
Saulė Mačiukaitė-Žvinienė, President of the Lithuanian Education Council, and Roma Žakaitienė, Administrative Director of the Association of Lithuanian Municipalities, also participated in the meeting.
