The 30-year-old Lithuanian did not achieve another historic victory on Friday at the prestigious US Open tournament in New York (USA). Richard Berankis (ATP-65). In the third round of units, the Lithuanian fights after 1 hour and 55 minutes 4: 6, 3: 6, 2: 6 lost to a 29-year-old Spaniard Pablo Carreno-Bustai (ATP-27). R.Berankis led twice in the first set after winning a series of passes from the opponent, but, similarly to the previous match with Novak Djokovicumi, already in the next game he spread the advantage. The same was repeated at the beginning of the second set: R. Berankis immediately won the opponent’s series and lost the lead in the second game.
After the game, Carren-Busta still did not know what awaited him in the next stage: “I will watch the Djokovic and Struff game in a relaxed hotel.”
A few hours later N. Djokovičius justified the favorite status, defeated the German and became another opponent of P.Carren-Busta. Speaking of the next game, the Serbian did not skimp praise for the Spanish.
“He is a very solid player. It may not have explicit strengths, but it performs all the punches very well. Pablo tends to put a lot of balls back on the court, so I will have to be prepared for long substitutions of shots. This match will require a lot of physical and psychological strength. I hope to continue with a good section and play with the same success as I do today, ”said N. Djokovičius.
R. Berankis planned to fly to Austria after the US Open and participate in the ATP 250 series tournament on land. However, due to the successful performance in New York, the Lithuanian did not qualify for the tournament and was forced to be removed from the list of participants. A few dozen other tennis players currently in New York have done the same.
In mid-September, R. Berankis signed up to qualify for the ATP 500 series tournament in Germany. It is true that at the moment the Lithuanian is behind the line and it is not clear if he will enter the classification. For R. Berankis, this would be a dress rehearsal on the field before this year’s “Big Cross” tournament “Roland Garros”, which starts unusually late, on September 27.
The total prize pool for the US Open is $ 53.4 million. AMERICAN DOLLAR.
