As a result of this incident, a pre-trial investigation was launched in the Criminal Intelligence Division of the Department of Prisons to determine the cause of death.
The crimes of R. Bekinitis shook Lithuania exactly 5 years ago. He killed 4 women in a matter of days.
On the morning of November 2, 2015, R. Bekintis went to a woman’s house and demanded money because he wanted to buy alcohol. When he received nothing, he smashed the woman with a hammer. When he left, he kidnapped 35 euros.
The next day, he stabbed another woman with a knife and then stole property for 900 euros.
On November 4, R. Bekintis arrived at the home of a disabled elderly man. A murderer beat her to death and stabbed her.
At the time when the intruder was looking for money at the victim’s house, a social worker came to visit her. When a man was caught at the crime scene, the social worker began asking for help. R. Betingis grabbed a shovel and beat the woman to death, and stole 5 euros from her wallet.
Concerned relatives of one of those killed went to the police that day. In a matter of hours, agents found all 4 bodies.
And R. Becintis himself was given away by the town vendors. He came to the store to buy alcohol and gave him a bloody 5 euro note. The woman immediately reported this to officials as she had already heard of the shocking killings.
In the immediate aftermath of these murders, a major scandal ensued as it became clear that Bekintis had been sentenced to probation only a few months ago and had to be supervised by the Probation Service.
