Palanga Mayor Šarūnas Vaitkus told BNS that as of Monday, 82 people have already declared their place of residence in Palanga.

“From December 14 to today, 82 people have declared their place of residence. I think this may be due to the fact that they would be allowed to enter the city as residents, ”said the mayor of Palanga.

According to him, people’s reasons for wanting to suddenly become residents of Palanga can be various.

“Perhaps there are some people who have not, so these are not new cases. There may be people who live and say one family member has declared his place of residence in Palanga and another may not have declared or declared in another Lithuanian city, but now that there are restrictions, he is probably in a hurry to declare and take certificates ” said the Palanga manager. .

“It is a human right if you have real estate,” he added.

The Mayor of Druskininkai, Ričardas Malinauskas, stated that since Monday 38 people have already declared their place of residence in Druskininkai, while 75 have been declared for the entire month of December.

“It is unequivocal that the quarantine restrictions also affected him,” R. Malinauskas told BNS.

He said he was pleased that the quarantine had helped encourage people to register and ensured that people in Druskininkai could safely comply with the holidays.

“The population is good in every way. In Druskininkai, people can safely fulfill the holidays. I’m not saying that I encourage driving, everyone has to be responsible, but in Druskininkai there are really opportunities to walk in the parks , the vacancies and incidence in Druskininkai is one of the lowest in terms of numbers ”, said the director of Druskininkai.

“It is wise to have many things in life, like my grandmother, eternal rest,” he added.

According to R. Malinauskas, most people declare with their parents or have property.

In Klaipeda and Neringa: printing of certificates

The mayor of Neringa, Darius Jasaitis, told BNS that currently the municipality’s specialists are printing certificates proving the place of residence in this municipality.

According to the mayor, this shows that more people are coming to Neringa during the holiday period than usual.

“The specialists told me that since yesterday and yesterday, nothing else is currently working, just printing certificates and shipping. This means that the movement of the declared population will be considerable ”, said D. Jasaitis.

“Those lights that only come on in summer and don’t come on in winter will probably come on this weekend,” he added.

The situation is similar in Klaipėda, whose manager Vytautas Grubliauskas says that applications for certificates have increased tenfold.

“The number of people applying for certificates of declared residence in Klaipeda has multiplied by ten. Apparently, it is here because those who do not live in Klaipeda could enter,” V. Grubliauskas told BNS.

“The situation is interesting and the impact of the restrictions is being felt,” he said.

According to the head of the port city, as a result, some employees will have to stop teleworking and return to work in the municipality.

“This leads to the fact that some employees will have to return from a remote location to a physical place of work, because the Internet is enough to declare places and the certificates have to be stamped,” said the Klaipeda head.

The focus of the police is in Palanga

With the tighter quarantine restrictions coming into effect on Wednesday, police officers are paying more attention to Palanga, where a reinforced force will ensure uninterrupted control.

According to the Klaipėda County Police, about 400 cars were searched at five stalls on Wednesday afternoon, of which about 20 were not admitted.

“The explanations that it was necessary to go to the spa because you want to go shopping, have a dog on the beach or something like that are not a necessary reason, so people of course had to turn around and drive home,” police said in a statement.

The police are urging people to refrain from unnecessary trips to other municipalities and, if they are already doing so, to have a document confirming the reason.
