According to Radvilė Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė, the eldest of the TS-LKD faction, it is not a normal situation when parliamentarians who have completed their term receive an immediate 6-month severance pay, but return to work after one or two months.
“Taking into account the cases of the last months, the leadership of the TS-LKD faction is presenting an amendment to the Statute of the Seimas so that the severance system of the members of the Seimas is reasonable and decent.
It is not normal for Seimas members who have completed their tenure to receive 6-month severance pay in one go and soon resume their work at Seimas. It must be paid every month, thus avoiding situations in which the former MP receives the full allowance immediately after the end of his term and the next day is already employed in another job or, if the circumstances arise, returns to the Seimas to work as member of the Seimas. Unfortunately, we have seen many such cases lately, ”says R. Morkūnaitė-Mikulėnienė.
Currently, the Statute stipulates that a Seimas member will receive severance pay equal to the average monthly salary of a Seimas member for the number of continuous years, but not less than 2 and not more than 6 average severance pay.
According to lrt.lt, during this period from 6.8 to 23.6 thousand were paid to non-elected parliamentarians. severance pay of EUR. Artūras Skardžius, who will possibly take the place of Antanas Guoga, who has resigned the mandate of a member of the Seimas, has also received such a decision. The starting point of A. Skardžius was around 12 thousand. euros in hand. As lrt.lt announced, if A. Skardžius returned to the Seimas, he would not have to return the benefit, because this is not allowed by legal acts.
