According to the Gazeta Wyborcza newspaper, the police asked the protesters to leave through a loudspeaker and tried to surround them.

“We have the right to protest,” chanted the crowd.

Protesters held signs with the words “Don’t explain to me how to live” and “Get rid of a government that hates women.”

Police arrested several people, according to the PAP news agency.

Smaller demonstrations were also held in other Polish cities, including Krakow and Wroclaw. The demonstrations also commemorate the 102nd anniversary of Polish women’s voting rights.

In October, the Polish Constitutional Court ruled that women could not have an abortion even in cases where the fetus was severely malformed. Since then, protests have started in Poland. The abortion law in Poland was already one of the strictest in Europe.
