It is expected that complementing the Military Service Law with this proposal will improve the situation of young Lithuanian families.

Current law stipulates that military service may be suspended only for those who are raising a minor child or if they have been granted parental leave until the child reaches the age of three.

In order to avoid disproportionate damage to the interests of young people who study, young families and children, it is proposed to establish a lower age limit for recruits to serve, as well as to expand the possibility of postponement of recruitment when a young man is studying.

It is proposed that recruits whose initial mandatory permanent military service has been suspended on an individual basis are called up to this service, up to the age of 26 at the end of the circumstances leading to the suspension, but up to and including 24 calendar years. end of the year following the end of the foreseeable circumstances giving rise to the postponement.

It is also suggested that military service could be postponed for higher education students, for the period of study according to the first cycle study program (professional degree and bachelor’s degree) or the integrated study program, according to the Second cycle study or the integrated study program, according to the untitled study program, according to the doctoral studies studies.

“Therefore, the postponement could be used by those students who are returning to study (second baccalaureate, second master, etc.), thus creating the conditions for young people to expand their professional career and integration into the labor market,” he says. A. Širinskienė.

Current law stipulates that recruits whose permanent mandatory initial military service has been suspended individually must be called up for service up to 26 years after the end of the circumstances that led to the suspension, but no later than the end of next year. calendar. .

Currently, it is also envisaged that military service may be postponed individually for higher education students, once for a period of study in accordance with the first cycle study program (bachelor’s degree and bachelor’s degree) or integrated study program, from according to the second cycle study program or integrated study program, according to study program without qualification, according to doctoral studies.
