M.Germanavičius and V.Šatas are charged with hooligan incentives, displaying a contemptuous attitude towards victim Robert I., who killed him. Depending on the charge, they face prison terms of eight to 20 years or life in prison.

54-year-old Robert I.’s fateful drink, drinking vodka and beer, took place in March 2017 at his home on Žemaičių Street.

V.Šatas and M.Germanavičius are accused of inflicting fatal injuries to the owner of the table with scissors, which could not be found. They said they were dumped on the Žaliakalnis slope near the crime scene, where a local resident collects metal.

During the investigation, both condemned men admitted that they had been intoxicated by the idea of making fun of the imposing appearance of the host of the tablecloth, who gave him the nickname Jesus. But she really had no intention of killing him. And he did it by accident. At first his sleeping beard was trimmed. And then he wanted to beautify his mustache too. However, he accidentally cut his nose. Oh, when the “returnee” didn’t resist at all, he also cut off his ear.

After “beautifying” the host at the table, his guests continued to drink. And only after a while did he realize that he was already bruised. And when he realized this, he still ran to the nearby store and asked to call the ambulance. However, the paramedics who arrived were no longer able to help their victim with anything.

How many experts, so many opinions?

Experts from the Kaunas branch of the State Forensic Medicine Service stated that Robert I. died of acute bleeding caused by injuries to his nose and ear.

This conclusion was also confirmed by the specialist commission of the Vilnius-based State Service of Forensic Medicine. After law enforcement officers who investigated the crime approached there to make sure such deadly bleeding had actually occurred from the injury, those vital organs do not appear to be vital.

However, after taking the case to court, Diana Višinskienė, lawyer for one of the murder defendants, M. Germanermančius, submitted a request to join in a new finding on the death of Robert I., signed by Paulius Petreikis, a medical examiner who has been in practice for 20 years. It states that Robert I., who had purulent bronchitis, died of ethyl alcohol poisoning.

However, the court did not order a new and complex examination of the cause of death of Robert I., as expected by this lawyer.

Only stopped the grate

By bringing this case to court, M. Germanavičius and V.Šatas, who were arrested after the death of Robert I., were already at large. Today, however, they are both behind bars.

M. Germanavičius was arrested for violating, upon emerging from arrest, a milder preventive measure that was imposed on him: being home at night. And V.Šat, when the questioning of the witnesses began, began to ignore the court hearings, which led to his arrest in absentia. However, he was still in hiding in Germany for some time, as was suspected. However, in late 2018, he was arrested in Lithuania.

In addition, both M. Germanavičius and V.Šatas, who had already transferred the case of Robert I.’s murder to court, obtained new convictions. M. Germanavičius was sentenced by the Kaunas District Court to five months in prison for causing physical pain and destroying the property of another person. It is true that he committed these crimes even before the fateful drinking of Robert I. and V.Šatas, who awaited sentence in prison, he was even arrested twice a year for drunk driving. In both cases, it was found that he was drunk more than one and a half per thousand, for which he was punished by the Kaunas and Šiauliai district courts.

The prosecutor Vytautas benefeckas, who supports the accusation, offered M. Germanavičius, 37, a sentence of fourteen years in prison. And V. Šatas, who turned thirty today, has been sentenced to fifteen years in prison.

The defendants’ attorneys asked the defendants to acquit them or recast the charge against them for negligent deprivation of life.

The condemned themselves reiterated in the last word that they had not committed any crime and therefore ask to be acquitted.
