The professor shared his ideas on his Facebook account on Monday.
“The epidemiological situation in Lithuania is very complicated, with many deaths from COVID-19 and other diseases. Perhaps it is only now that the public is beginning to understand what it means to have a healthcare system that has been constantly criticized but is still in place, and what medical help really means. We understand when we lose something, “writes Prof. V.Kasiulevičius.
According to him, the decisions made by the new government are correct.
“There was a long discussion before the government meeting. The area under his responsibility and the losses to the economy and the budget were very important to all ministers. The opinion of our representatives, the doctors, was categorical: the most important thing was to limit people’s contacts as much as possible. We agreed that this is the least we can do at the moment to save as many lives as possible for Lithuanian citizens, ”the professor writes.
According to V. Kasiulevičius, it is important that the government’s decisions were approved by President Gitanas Naus .da.
“I have no illusions that my compatriot’s frequent anger and dissatisfaction with any power will temporarily disappear. Nobody remembers that the new government received the mandate 3 days ago. Conspiracy theories about forced vaccination, about the limitations of democracy, about Soros-backed financial scandals continue to prevail on social media.
This will not stop simultaneously criticizing vaccination and … promoting the Russian vaccine. What an easy job when both of you are trustworthy and unwilling to think critically about people who need to somehow justify their naivety, despair, and failure. And the consequences of that pandemic will be felt for a long time. It’s a wonderful medium for anyone who wants to take advantage of the disaster that has befallen us. When they talk a lot about the tyranny of government decisions, they forget that a true tyrant longs for new lives every day, ”writes prof. V. Kasiulevičius.
But I do not stop believing that the vast majority of Lithuanians are adequate and understand the simple truth: now, at the risk of losing their lives, seeing the loss of people very close or very far from us, we still have to go through the rubric of the history as each generation passes. own. After all, most people don’t want to surrender to the virus, ”writes the professor.
According to him, now that we know better about the COVID-19 virus, we can get closer to the situation in the spring.
“It is not necessary for everyone to become a hero, like the heroes of our COVID-19 departments – medical students, volunteers, resident physicians, or all seasoned physicians suffering from unbearable heat and emotional stress for hours. Try to see how the virus is suffocating daily. Perhaps then everyone would understand the concept of empathy. Perhaps when it’s all over, society or at least the government will sincerely stay behind our heroes.
However, many normal people only need to do simple things: keep a safe distance, wash their hands, limit our needs to the doctrine of the consumer society as much as possible and know that we will overcome it, ”writes V. Kasiulevičius on his account From Facebook.
