The ceremony at Windsor Castle, west London, is expected to be seen by a television audience of one million people, urging the public to stay away from the global pandemic.
The Duke of Edinburgh, whom the royal family calls the “grandfather of the nation”, died on April 9, at the age of 99, just weeks after spending more than a month in hospital due to heart disease and infection.
The ceremony will be attended by more than 700 military personnel, including members of military orchestras, honorary units and naval trumpets.
However, due to the restrictions imposed in place of the coronavirus pandemic on 800 funerals, which were planned under the funeral plans even before the death of Prince Philip, only 30 St. will gather in the Chapel of St. George, including the the widow’s queen and her four children.
In violation of established custom, members of the royal family serving in the armed forces or holding honorary military titles will be at the funeral without uniforms.
The hearse will be accompanied by his children and those of the Queen, Prince Charles, Princess Anne, Prince Andrew and Prince Edward. The grandsons of princes William and Harry will also follow, although they will not be next to each other. Among the siblings whose relationship has been overshadowed by Harry’s decision to give up his royal duties and move to California is his cousin Peter Phillips, son of Princess Ann.
Along with the children and grandchildren of Prince Philip, the funeral will be attended by other high-ranking members of the royal family and several relatives of the deceased from Germany. Philip, entitled Prince of Greece and Denmark before his wedding, was related to a chain of European royal families, as was the Queen herself.
Funeral participants are asked to wear protective masks and to maintain a physical distance from others in the chapel, as well as not to join in when the four-person choir sings hymns. Queen Elizabeth II, who spent most of last year in solitary confinement with her husband at Windsor Castle, will sit alone in the chapel.
During the services, Windsor Chief Priest David Conner will pay tribute to Philip’s “unwavering loyalty” to the Queen, who will turn 95 next week, to the country and the Commonwealth, as well as to his “courage, strength and faith”.
2 pm 40 min. At local time (4:40 pm, Lithuania), members of Prince Philip’s family will begin the procession.
The coffin with the remains of the prince will be transported in his own improved Land Rover, repainted in military green with the rear body open.
3 pm (5 pm Lithuanian time) A minute of silence will be announced across the country in memory of the prince. Its beginning and end will be marked by the weapons of the Royal Cavalry Artillery Brigade.
At the end of the services, the coffin with the remains of the Duke of Edinburgh will be lowered into the Royal Crypt.
Due to the pandemic, officials urged the British not to bring flowers to Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. Instead, the royal family invited people to donate to charity.
The national mourning will end on the day of the funeral, but the royal family will watch it for another two weeks.
