The three schools in the capital will continue their education using the Prince Gediminas Progymnasium model, where testing is carried out in bulk. Primary students have been studying at this school for a month. It is true that two of the 167 accumulated samples that showed coronavirus infection were found on Friday, so two classes returned to distance education.

Only one family refused to take the test.

On Monday, 362 primary school children returned to Vilnius Vyturys Primary School and another 30 continue their studies at home. According to the school principal Daina Valackienė, the first day of contact education was equal to September 1.

“The mood is great both yesterday and today, the children really wanted to go to school. As much as I talked to the children myself, I really missed the friends, the communication, the teachers. The teachers also transmitted such messages that they arrived at the school as of September 1, ”the principal shared her impressions.

According to D.Valackienė, there were no major problems in taking the cumulative tests, on March 11 the entire school was evaluated and only one family refused to do so. Currently, one class is studying remotely, but some of it is also scheduled to return to school soon.

According to the director, the students who will stay at home will be taken to the consultation by the teachers.

“Currently we are also looking for a hybrid way in which the teacher can connect the child directly with the lesson. We will find this out during the week and try to keep as little self-employment at home as possible, ”said D. Valackienė.

The school principal hopes that all primary school children will be able to learn to live in the near future, but stresses the need to remain vigilant.

“Yesterday I saw everyone’s bright eyes, although there are all kinds of fears, none of us are protected. Now we are all healthy, but nobody knows what will happen in a week, “said the portal. lrytas.lt said the principal of Vyturys Elementary School.

To school – with flowers

About 80 percent of primary school children walked through the doors of the Vilnius Jonas Basanavičius Progymnasium on Tuesday morning. The school’s principal, Jurgita Nemanienė, also said that this day amounts to a celebration.

“The children are very happy, most of the children came with flowers and banquets, this first day is a day to remember friendships and to compensate for living in the distance. The teachers also have bright eyes, it was a real celebration at our school today, ”said the principal.

According to J. Nemanienė, several families did not agree to be tested and it also turned out that two families were infected with COVID-19 after the tests.

“More effort was required for that initial determination and data collection, but we did all this work, and only the parents were allowed to arrive on time. Starting this week, probably on Thursdays or Fridays, we will already do the cumulative tests only at school ”, said the head of the progymnasium.

According to her, going back to school also created some unusual challenges, such as organizing meals.

“The children are already used to soups, two healthy meals. It will probably take time to get back to normal school life as it used to be, because even such simple things need to get used to, ”commented J. Nemanienė.

According to the school principal, children who stay to study at a distance will not suffer, but the goal will be to get more beginners to return to classes.

“Our idea was that we would all go back or stay away. Of the 20 primary grades, 3 remained in distance education. Of course, we will not let you go and we will respond to you.

We organize distance learning for the rest of the house, but under changing conditions, for example, we form a joint group of all first graders who do not return and are taught by another teacher, ”explained the director of Jonas Basanavičius Progymnasium.

Distance education is not underestimated

At the beginning of the week, 374 primary school children returned to the Progymnasium Baltupiai in Vilnius. The school’s principal, Ligita Visockienė, shared her impressions that the first day was very emotional, but on Tuesday the children already got serious about school.

“The school is back to normal. Yesterday there was a lot of emotion, a lot of joy. The kids say they can finally raise their hand and realize right away from what they didn’t always see when they learned remotely.

Today life flows so smoothly, students are already involved in the learning process. If yesterday was a more joyous day, today everyone is very diligent at work. As much as I had to walk, he does not even raise his head, he is very concentrated: the educational process writes, irritates, boils, ”said L. Visockienė.

According to the school principal, distance education did not do as much damage as it could have.

“We also learned to learn in other ways. Finally, we have also strengthened our knowledge of information technology, since elementary students do not have information technology lessons. This distance education provided additional knowledge, it was not so bad ”, considered L. Visockienė.

Asked about how to combine distance education with contact, the head of the progymnasium assured that there are many ways, but the most appropriate solutions are still being sought.

“We have planned several scenarios, we are constantly talking about how to make distance education as successful as possible. One way is to submit material to the Google classroom, to the blog, as well as individual and group tutorials. Yet another way is to involve teacher assistants to assist and advise.

Another way we have already tried is to connect students at home with live lessons at school. Of course, we are still improving everything and looking for the best solutions, “said the portal. lrytas.lt L.Visockienė spoke.

Easily agreed with parents

Speaking of communication with the parents of the students, the directors of the schools interviewed were glad that it was quite easy to find a common language. D.Valackienė, principal of Vilnius Vyturys Primary School, said the school tried to explain every word to his parents and answer every question.

“We try to translate everything we know, formulating sentences in a clear way for parents. Everything is going well with communication, the only problem is that not everyone accepts and understands what you are writing. Sometimes there is such a superficial reading and these are very important topics. However, communication is going quite well, ”said D. Valackienė.

Jurgita Nemanienė, director of Jonas Basanavičius Progymnasium, said that the absolute majority of parents were highly motivated and supported this idea from the start.

“Another parent was the one who abstained because he might be scared or not sure if everything would be okay. In addition, several parents think that it is more convenient to study at home, saving travel time. We have all been very in touch with the position of scientists that children need school and live teaching.

Distance learning not only leads to a decrease in performance, but some children go unnoticed behind the screen, it happens that even for a few days they do not say anything. It’s very difficult to see and talk to everyone else, ”said J. Nemanienė.

Ligita Visockienė, Director of Baltupiai progymnasium, also stated that the testing and communication processes went smoothly.

“I have not heard any opposition or discontent. The parents consciously tried, they were interested, they helped each other.

Our community is very cohesive and focused, we sincerely communicated with each other and everyone was able to make their own decisions of their own free will. Here there was no coercion, because we will continue to study both contact and distance, ”said L. Visockienė.
