“These actions will be carried out as required by law. The first session (Seimas – ELTA) was convened on Friday and more actions will be taken in the coming weeks,” the president’s senior adviser, Simonas Krėpšta, told reporters in a press conference on Monday.
President Gitanas Nausėda, meeting with Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis on Friday, accepted the restored mandate of the government he led and instructed him to hold office temporarily until a new government is formed.
After the newly elected Seimas begins his work on Friday and the outgoing Government returns his powers, the President must, in accordance with the Constitution, submit the candidacy of the new Prime Minister to the Seimas for consideration within 15 days.
